c. w. MOORE HAIR DRIER Filed Oct. 20, 1924 Wham/31' fem 0222"? Patented Sept. 8, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. MOOR OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
HAIR DRIER.
Application filed October 20, 1924. Serial No. 744,593.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. Moons, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair Driers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in hair driers, and has for its object the provision of an improved device of this character for use by barbers and the like and by means of which the hair of a customer may be quickly and expeditiously dried.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which, i
Fig. 1 is a side view of a hair drier embodying the invention,
Fig. 2 is a rear View of the same,
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 33 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. i is a section taken on line 47-41: of Fig. 3.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises a tubular supporting pedestal 5 having a sup porting head 6 pivotally mounted at the top thereof to swing on a vertical axis. The
supporting head 6 carries a clamping head I 7 co-operating with another clamping head 8 depending from a motor casing 9, said clamping heads being adjustably secured together by means of a clamping bolt 1 and whereby the motor casing may be ad usted on a horizontal axis as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1.
Attached to one side of the motor casing 9 is a fan casing 11 having the usual tangential discharge 12 and projecting horizontally from the top of the fan casing. An ordinary centrifugal fan is arranged in the easing 11 and attached to the motor shaft for projecting a blast of air through the discharge 12 in the usual way. A flexible discharge tube 13 is detachably connected with the fan discharge 12 as shown and said discharge is preferably provided with the usual electric heater for heating the discharged air not shown.
By this arrangement it will be observed that the device may be readily adjusted to discharge the blast of air from the fan in practically any desired direction. By tilting the fan casing forwardly and bending th discharge tube upwardly as indicated in the lower portion of Fig. 1 an upward blast of air may be directed around the sides and rear of the head. By tilting the fan casing rearwardly and bending the discharge tube downwardly as indicated by the dotted lines in the upper portion of Fig. 1 a downward blast of air may be directed against the to of the head. Likewise by swinging the fan casing from side to side on the vertical axis of the pedestal and correspondingly flexing the discharge tube 13 the air blast may be directed against either side of the head. In this manner the hair may be quickly and expeditiously dried by various applications of the air blast.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A hair drier comprising a tubular pedestal; a supporting head pivotally mounted on the top of said pedestal to swing on a vertical axis; a fan and its casing adj ustably mounted on said supporting head to swing on a horizontal axis, said fan casing being provided at its top with a tangential discharge; and a flexible discharge tube connected with said fan discharge, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
GEORGE W. MOORE.
