E. J] DUMOUCHEL FI SHHOOK HOLDER Filed Oct. 20, 1,924
INVENTOR [Mn/0rd J flamaucfie ATTORNEYS Patented Aug. 25, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD J. DUMOUCI-IEL, or KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN, AssIeNoa ro SHAKESPEARE COMPANY, or KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
FISHHOOK HOLDER.
Application filed October 20, 1924. Serial No. 744,795.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. DUMOU- GHEL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fishhook Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fish hook holders. My improved hook holder is especially designed for snelled hooks and to be placed in the pocket of a garment, although it may be attached to some other part of a garment or placed in a tackle boX.
Objects of the invention pertaining to details of construction and operation will appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of the invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is defined and pointed out in the claims. A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a perspective view of a garment having a pocket showing the arrangement of my improved hook holder therein.
Fig. II is a front view of my improved hook holder, the snells being partially broken away and for convenience in illustration being shown straight.
Fig. III is an edge view, looking from the right of Fig. II.
Fig. IV is a plan view of the blank from which the holder is formed.
In the drawings, similar numerals of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
My improved hook holder comprises a plate-like body 1, preferably formed of a. blank, preferably of sheet aluminum and as shown in Fig. IV, having a pocket 2 at its lower end adapted to receive the snells and hooks, the hooks being indicated at 3 and the snells at 4. This pocket 2 is formed by turning up the lower end 5 of the blank, the same being bent along the dotted lines 6, and by turning forwardly the wings which constitute the ends of the pocket. A portion of the upper end of the body is struck downwardly to form the supporting hook 8 which is adapted to be engaged over the edge of a pocket or the edge of a belt or other part of a garment, to support the holder. It is especially designed, however, to support and retain the holder within the pocket of a garment, as indicated in Fig. I.
From one longitudinal edge of the body I strike the fingers 9, which are folded rearwardly in parallel relation to the rear side of the body, providing a holder for a piece of abrasive material, such as 10 (emery paper being satisfactory), for sharpening or removing rust from the hooks. The portion of the body between the slots 11, formed by striking out these fingers, provides a tongue 12 under which the snells of the hooks may be engaged. This tongue is forwardly oflset at 13, thereby more effectively retaining the snells, the snells being engaged in this offset portion.
My improved hook holder is very simple and economical to manufacture and is at the same time efiective and very convenient in use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A tackle holder comprising a platelike body having an upwardly facing hook pocket at its lower end and a pair of spaced fingers struck from one longitudinal edge thereof and folded rearwardly upon the body providing supporting means for a piece of abradant material, the portion of the body between the slots formed by striking said fingers therefrom constituting a tongue under which the snells o-f snelled hooks disposed in the pocket may be engaged, and a piece of abradant material disposed under said fingers.
2. A tackle holder comprising a platelike body having an upwardly facing hook pocket at its lower end and a down-turned supporting hook at its upper end adapted for engagement with the edge of a pocket of a garment in which the holder is placed, said body having a pair of spaced slots extending from one longitudinal edge thereof, the portion of the body between the slots constituting a tongue under which the snells of snelled hooks disposed in the pocket may 7 be engaged, said tongue having an outward offset therein to facilitate retaining of the snells.
3. A tackle holder comprising a platelike body having an upwardly facing hook pocket at its lower end, said body having a pair of spaced slots extending from one longitudinal edge thereof, the portion of the body between the slots constituting a tongue under which the snells of snelled hooks disposed in the pocket may be engaged, said tongue having an outward ofiset therein to facilitate retaining of the snells.
4. A tackle holder comprising a platelike body having an upwardly facing hook pocket at its lower end, said body having a pair of spaced slots at one edge providing a tongue under which the snells of snelled hooks disposed in the pocket may be engaged, said tongue being outwardly offset.
5. A tackle holder comprising a platelike body having an upwardly facing hook pocket at its lower end, said body having a pair of spaced slots at one edge providing a tongue under which the snells of snelled hookcsi disposed in the pocket may be en- 'a e b A tackle holder comprising a platelike body having an upwardly facing hook pocket at its lower end and a down-turned supporting hook at its upper end, said body having a tongue under which the snells of snelled hooks disposed in the pocket may be engaged.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
