L. WALTON ET AL ATTACHMENT TO ELECTRYC LAMP SOCKETS Filed Feb. 11, 1924 .b kli/aeiwdia dil (72rd Mar/a anon? Patented Aug. ll, 1925,
UNITED TES PATENT OFFICE..
ATTACHMENT T0 ELECTRIC-LAMP SOCKETS.
Application filed. February 11, 1924. Serial No. 692,186.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LUTHER Ti ALTON and CLARA MURRAY, citizens oi: the United States, residing at Chattanooga, in the county of Hamilton and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments to Electric-Lamp Sockets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment for an electric lamp socket, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby the key of the socket can be turned by a pair of flexible members so that sockets which are placed at a height can have the keys easily manipulated by persons of short stature.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of a socket showing the invention in use.
Figure 2 is a view of the blank from which the device is formed.
Figures 3 and 4 are detail views of the device itself.
In these views, A indicates a socket key engaging member which is provided with the looped part 1 for engaging the handle part of the key or switch, the two parts of the loop being fastened to the key by the bolts 2. A part 3 extends at right angles to one limb of the loop and this part is provided with the arms 4: for receiving the flexible members 5 which may be chains or the like. The opposite limb of the loop is pr0- vided with an extension 6 which has a hole 7 therein through which one of the chains pass. One of the arms 4 is provided with a right angular extension 4 which acts as a stop for limiting the movement of the device in one direction. As shown, the device is formed of a single blank of material considerable height from the floor.
The
device can be easily and quickly attached to the switch key by placing the loop of the handle part of the key and then inserting the bolts. The chain which passes through the hole in the extension 6 is used for returning the part to a position where it will close the switch, this position being shown in Figure 1.
The extension 6 holds the chain in a position where a pull upon the same will move the device from the vertical position to a horizontal position and the stop 4 will prevent the device being moved further in a vertical position when the other chain is pulled upon to open the switch. This step will engage a part of the lamp socket.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
lVe desire it to be understood that we may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
lVhat we claim is An attachment of the class described comprising a member having a looped part for engaging the handle part of a switch key, an upwardly extending part, laterally extending arms on said part having holes therein, flexible members having their upper extremities engaging the holes, an extension on one of the arms acting as a stop for limiting the movement of the device in one direction, and an extension on the bottom part of the loop having an opening therein through which one of the flexible members pass.
In testimony whereof we aiiix our signatures.
LUTHER WALTON. CLARA MURRAY.
