MOP.
Application filed November 14, 1924.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.:
Be it known that I, MAX M. lVErss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mops, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention relates to washing devices and more particularly is directed to an improved fountain mop which is adapted tol be attached to the end of a hose for cleaning automobiles and the like purposes.
Among the objects of the invention is to provide an improved device of the character described which is normally arranged to operate with a continuous supply of water to the brush or mop end thereof for facilitating the cleaning of the surfaces of antoniobiles or for like purposes, without marring or scratching the polish or finish of such surfaces, which is simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, neat in appearance, and efficient and practical to a high degree.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a washing device embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 2-2 in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a cross-secti0nal view taken on line 3 3 in Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4c is a perspective view of a modified form of the invention.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 10 indicates generally a fountain mop Washing device embodying the invention and as will be seen from Figs. 1, 2 and 3, comprises a head 11 which may be of any suitable shape, preferably triangular, to present a tapered leading end 11a tofacilitate reaching in corners, and an elongated tubular handle member 12 having the outlet end 12u thereof Secured to the under side 0f 13h@ head 11,
Serial No. 749,811.
said handle member 12 extending outwardly from the side 11b, opposite the end 11a, and at an angle with the top side 11d of said head. The lead end 11 and other corners of the head are preferably rounded so as to prevent scratching the surfaces of the object cleaned.
The head 11 may be made of any suitable material, but is preferably formed of sheet metal into a hollow member having the top side 11d and depending side walls 11c to enclose a recess llfof the mop 13. To provide a releasable fastening means for securely holding the mop 0r brush 13 in the head 11, the marginal portions of the Walls 11C are bent to form inturned flanges 11c which are effective to engage with an expansible core 13a of mop 13 as shown in Fig. 2. To provide a neat finish and make the exterior surfaces of the head wear proof, non-corroding and rustless, the head may preferably be nickel plated or otherwise be suitably treated.
The handle member 12 is preferably made of tubing and may be finished like head 11, the device 10 being best finished in one operation after the head 11 and handle 12 have been assembled. As seen in Figs. 2 and 3, the outlet end 12a of member 12 passes through side 11b of the head 11, is preferably flattened, and is secured to the underside of the head 11 by any suitable means such as by soldering. The end 12a may be shaped and positioned to extend into said head 11 a substantial distance and serves to efficiently distribute the flow of water to all portions of the mop 13. The inlet end 12b of the handle may be provided with suitable coupling means 14 for connecting the device 1() to a hose (not shown) in the well known manner.
In Fig. 4 is shown a modified form of the invention indicated generally at 15 and comprising a head 1l and a Water supply tubular member 16, the latter having an outlet end 16a which is similar to end 12a of the handle member 12, and a short extension inlet end 16" which may be adapted to be attached to a flexible hose 17 in the well known manner. In order to provide convenient means for manipulating the device 15, a strap 17 may be secured to the head 11 in any suitable manner as by d etachably fastening the hook end 17a, said strap 17 and the head l1 being constructed to permit tlie` insertion of the operato'rs hand in the Well understood manner.
It Will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved and which is Well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as 'various changes might be made in the embodiment' above set forth, it 'is to be understood that all matter liereinset f'orthor shown in the accompanying "drawing is to be interpreted -as'illiistrative 'andnot in a limiting sense.V
Having thus desoribediny invention, I
'opening provided in said flange.
2. Anarticle of manufacture of the character described comprising a` triangular shaped head having" the marginal portions `thereof bent to forni a side Wall and inturned fianges adapted to releasably engage a similarly shaped mop, and a tubular member having one end thereof secured to the under side of the head and extending outwardly from a mid-portion of one of the flanges of said head, said end extending toward 'the opposite corner of said head a substantial distance along the underside thereof for distributing a flow of Water through said member to all portions` of `said mop.`
Intestiinony'whereof I aix my signa ture.
