L NE-TEE S'I' JULIUS SW'ANBERG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIG-NOR TO SWANBEBG MANUFACTUR- ING COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A. CORPGBATION OF ILLINOIS.
REMINDER LIST AND INDICATING MEANS THEREFOR.
Application filed October 31, 1923. Serial No. 671,825
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULiUs SIVANBERG, a citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Reminder List and Indicating IVIEQDS Therefor; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a reminder list and indicating means therefon' It is an important object of this invention to provide a device of the kind described which is durable, convenient to use and which at the same time may be economically manufactured.
It is a further object of this invention to provide a remainder list providing space for the application of a calendar, advertising indic-ia or the like.
It is also an important object of this invention to provide a device of the kind described embodying indicating means which are efficient and which may be embodied in the construction of the device at small expense.
Other and further important objects of this invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the saecification and the accompanying drawings.
The invention (in a n'eferred form) is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.
On the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a reminder list embodying the present invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary section on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure at is a fragmentary elevation illustrating a modified form of indicating means.
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view with parts in elevation illustrating a modified form of indicating means.
As shown on the drawings:
The reference numeral 1 indicates a cart, board or similar article having parallel lists of names 52. marked thereon. These lists of names may embody names of usual household articles or other lists of names of articles which it is desired to purchase or replace from time to time. The card which is preferably used is constructed from a good grade of cardboard which is enameled and later treated with waterproof composition such as shellac, so that it may be readily washed. It is, of course, apparent that a single list of names may be applied to the card or a plurality of parallel lists of may be applied, as desired. f
In order to indicate the articles which need to be replenished, it is desirable that indicating means be movedto apoint oppo-' site the portion of the card whereon said name is marked. The indicating means which are provided by this invention comprise a plurality of beads 3 which are strung on flexible members 4., ordinarily comprising the usual twine cord, said flexible members I being rather tightly secured between eyelets 5 at the corners of the card and extending along the edges of the card parallel to the lists 2. The eyelets 5 afiord means whereby the card may be conveniently hung on the wall, and since the flexible members t are rather tightly stretched therebetween, there is suiiicient frictional engagement between the face of the card, the beads and said flexible members to retain the beads in any desired position to which they are moved on said flexible member. In order to prevent forward and inward buckling of the card, the flexible members l are preferably provided with extensions or reinforcing members 6 which extend longitudinally of the back of the card between the eyelets 5, as clearly shown in Figure 2. As will be noted, a supply of the beads 3 is normally kept at the bottom of the flexible members 4:, and these beads may be moved upwardly into indicating position as desired.
Figure 4 illustrates a slightly modified form of indicating means wherein beads 7 are guided by a crimped wire 8 secured to the face of the card in a manner similar to the flexible members a, said beads 7 acting as indicating members in the manner previously described.
In the form shown in Figure 5, indentations 9 are formed in the face of the card at each indicating position, these indentations serving to afford a seat for the inclicating beads 3 and to more firmly secure the same in position.
It will be noted that considerable space is left at the bottom of the card, and this space may be effectively utilized for the application of advertising indicia, such as is indicated at 10, and for a calendar or other suitable device 11, as shown in Figure 1.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description that this invention provides a reminder list and indicating means which may be very economically constructed, which is durable and which may be conveniently used to indicate frequently used articles which need replenishing or other data re garding which the user desires to be reminded. Due to the fact that the device may be cheaply constructed, it is possible to use the same as a vehicle for the transmission of advertising matter, since the advertisers can well afford to distribute the cards free because of the advertising value attached to placing the same before the eyes of the ultimate purchasers;
'In forming the flexible members 4, it is desirable, in order to enhance the frictional engagement with the beads 3, to have the same comprise two strands of twine twisted together and they are usually constructed in this manner. a
Indicating pointers 3 may be printed on the card opposite the names thereon, if desired.
I am aware that numerous changes may be made and details of construction varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the scope of the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
In a device of the class described, a card having lists of names of articles and an aperture adjacent the top and bottom of each of said lists thereon, flexible guiding In testimony whereof I have hereunto sub scribed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JULIUS SIVANBERG. Witnesses CARLTON I-IILL,
OSCAR HARTMANN.
