Description

3 vwcMl'o/L C J CURTIS WASTE RECPTACLE Filed Feyb. 6. 1924 July 28, 1925.
To all whom/t may concern:
Patented July 28, 1925.
'conoNEL J. cnn-ris, or osAGEjcrripxAnsAs.
WASTE- micnrzracnn.`
' Application 'ledebruary 6,- 1924. :Serial No. 690,945.
. Be it known that I, COLONEL J. Cuirrrs, a l
"citizen of the United VStat-es, residing atl Osage City, in the county of Osageand State of Kansas, have inventedcertain new andl'useful Improvements 5in Vaste Receptacles, of which the' following is a specification. r f f v 1 Thisinvention relates to a waste recep,
ztacle, and particularly to a construction ofv a bag-like character adapted for detachable' application to-.a deskr or table Vto receive paper and other discarded material and thus? promote tidinessand prevent thel collection of wastein or-.on the desk.
AIt-is common inschools for children to placewastepaper and other discarded articles in their-desks and rely upon a general cleaningrata subsequent-period, and also to provide a ,single waste receptacle. which tendsl to causecommotion inthe passageof the children for placing waste `material therein.v AvItis thereforevery desirable to.` provide an individual-receptacle ,which is readily detachable for emptying and of such y a character as to be supported upon thel deskfin convenient position and without forming any obstruction 1n the aisle or passage between the desks.
Bag'holders have previously been pro-V vided which support the bag with its mouth open in a horizontal plane but such an article is not adapted for attachment to the side or edge of a school desk as its projecting character forms an obstruction liable to be struck and disconnected in passing the desk and one in which articles may be accidentally dropped. The present invention obviates such objections by providing a fiat bag having a side opening and an attaching clamp adapted for application to a support in either a horizontal or vertical plane without changing the position of the bag.
'Ihe invention has for an object to provide a novel and improved construction of waste receptacle comprising a holder having a clamping supporting member with oppositely extending arms and a receptacle supported by said arms for dispositionv in a vertical plane irrespective of the plane of the supporting clamp.
Another ob 'ect ofthe invention is to provide a holder having clamping members from which opposite arms extendin a single horizontal plane together with a` bag receptacle having a side opening supported by said arms so as to normally retaina iiat position adjacent the object upon which it issupported.A A further' object of the invention is to provide an improved construction ofthe holder adapted to be formed from a single piece of material and comprising an upper curved clamping jaw extending downward and formed into parallel loops providingv a lower yclampingjaw, one end of said loops being projected straight' outwardly in `oppo-` l site, directions to fora-bag. ,1 a Y, I, Other rand further. objects and advantages of the inventionwill bev hereinafter set.
forth and the novel yfeatures thereof by the appended claims.
, In the drawings: k i g v Figure 1 is avperspective of the invention with `the .clamp-v in positionfor application to a horizontal support; L Figureis a top plan thereof; i"
Figure 3 is a detail perspective w-ith the defined port .in avertical.planejand` Aclamp in' position for applicationto a supprovide supporting arms Figairelrv issa detail perspectivefloflthe Like numerals referto-like part-s .through-- out the several figures of the drawing.
The holder is herein shown as vformed of a single piece ofjmaterial such as wire, but may be otherwise constructed andthe size and general configuration thereof altered. In the illustration shown the up er clamping jaw 10 is formed by a curve U-shaped portion at the center of the strip, the ends of which are bent downward at 11 and extended beneath the portion 10 to form parallel loops 12. Thev outer strand of these loops extends substantially straight and the inner strand 13 is curved and at its end next the bent y portion 11 is projected outwardly to form a supporting arm 14 which at its free end may be provided with an overturned or reentrant portion 15 to cooperate with the receptacle to be supported. The holder thus formed provides opposite supporting arms terminating in the same vertical planey and forming substantially a pivotal support upon which the which is cut away at its upper portion 18 to form a' side opening through which material may be introduced into the bag. The upper edge of the bag is provided at oppo site sides of the center with hems or pockets 19 adapted to receive the arms 14 and may be retained in position thereon by the reentrant ends l of said arms.. This con-v struction of bag provides a receptacle whichwill lie normally Hat against the side of the desk vforming no obstruction and the position thereof will not be altered by the plane in which the clamp is disposed for application to the supporting wall of the desk.
In the application of the invention the clamp may be applied either to the edge of the desk top at one side as shown by the position in Figure l, or where the desk is provided with a lifting top the clamp may be applied to the side or end wall thereof so as to support the receptacle in a vertical plane with its opening in position to convenientlyv receive waste material and the clamping means disposed to permit the ready attachment and detachment of the receptacle to form an individual device which can be constructed at a minimum of cost and adapted. for general application to school desks and other purposes.
While the details of construction and application of the invention have been' shown and described, it is not confined thereto as changes and alterations may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described myv invention, what I claim as new and desire'to secure by .Letters .Patent is:
l. A waste receptacle comprising a holder having a central clamp comprising a looped portion and a parallel looped member spaced therefrom and extended to form opposite straight free ends fixed in relation to the clamp, and a receptacle embracing said ends at opposite sides of the center to permit the receptacle to freely swing irrespective of the yplane 'of the` supporting clamp.
2. 'A holder comprising a central upright curved clamping jaw extending downwardly and formed into parallel loops producing a cooperating lower clamping jaw, the. free ends of said loops being fixed in relation to the jaws and projecting straight therefrom in opposite directions to provide supporting arms and a receptacle supported by said COLONEL J. cURTis.
