Be it known that I, MORRIS SCHWARTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in'the county of Cook and State of Illinois, Ahave invented a certain new and useful Improvement vin Bushing Structures,
of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description. My invention relates to apertured structures yhaving bushings in the apertures thereof. The invention is of particular service y in the construction offebarrels, the bushing lining the barrel opening and its bore constituting the bung hole. The bushing may beinteriorly threaded to receive a threaded bung. 1 y
In carrying out my invention the hole in the barrel is -margined by an annular rim and the annulanbushin is generally U-l shape in cross section and receives said rim in the annular space between its walls. One rim of the bushing has lateral edge portions at diferent distances from the axis of the bushing land the barrel ,walli in the region of the bung hole is formed with a pocket that surrounds thel hole and which receives 'the exterior` rim of the bushing. Said pockethas an outer wall extending longitudin'ally of the bushing and engaging the lateral edge portions of the outer bushing rim whereby the bushing is locked from ro' tation with respect to the barrel wall which carries it.

When the rim 2v has been .inserted the interior bushing lrirn 9 is outwardly deflected over the base of rim 2 into engagement with the shoulder 8 sufficiently to overlie the po- 90 lygonal flange 4 of the bushingthat is received in the space between the pocket walls. A lsealing gasket 12 is interposed between the flange 1l on one side of the flange 9 and the bottom of the pocket 5 on the other side, this sealing gasket sealing the gap that might possibly exist I between the flange 9 and the pocket 5 to `intercept any fluid that might work its way between the support 1 and the bushing.
As the invention is embodied the bushing flange 4 is upon the inner side of the barrel and the hexagonal tool engaging end of the bung is upon lthe outside of the barrel. it should happen that the bushing is somewhat loose in its assembly with the rim 2, the bung, in being tightened, will firmly lock the` bushing flange 4 in the pocket 5.
While I have herein shown and particrularly described the preferredembodiment a hole therethrough and having a rim porof my invention I do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction shown as changes may readily be made without departing from the spirit of my invention, but having thus described my invention I claimas newand desire to secure by Letters Patent the following 1. The combination with a support having tion mar inin-g said hole; of an a-nnular bushing having rims thereon and having a portion lU-shaped in cross section with a groove between. the sides of the U and receiving said rim portion between its sides, the rims of said bushing engaging the por- -tion of said support which surrounds the rim tiguous to said rim and afshoulder between which and said rim said sup ort art intervenes, said rim, shoulder and) sai intervening support part constituting a support portion S-shaped in cross section; of an annular bushing having rims thereon and having a portion U-shaped in cross section with a groove between the sides of the U and receivin said rim portion within the groove, one o the rims of the bushing lapping the other, these bushing rims snuglyengaging the aforesaid intervening support part therebetween, the lapping rim of said bushing engaging the aforesaid shoulder, one of the bushing rims having edge portions at different distances from the axis of the bushing and the support having portions engaging these edge portions of the latter bushing rim to prevent the bushing from turning.`

The combination with a support having a hole therethrough and having a rim portion margining sa1d hole, said support having a part surroundin the holeand contiguous to said rim an a shoulder between which and said rim said support part intervenes, said rim, shoulder and said intervening support part constituting a support portion S-sh'aped in cross section; of an annular bushing having rims thereon and having a portion U-shaped in cross section with a groove between the sides of the U and receiving said rimportions between its sides, one of the rims of the bushing lapping the other, these bushing rims snugly engaging the aforesaid intejrventing support part therebetween, one of the bushing rims having ed e portions at different distances from the axis of the bushing and the support having portions engaging these edge portions of the latter bushing rim to prevent the bushing from turning.
