. Be it known that I, HARRY I-I. Violines, a citizen of the United States, `residing in Corona, Long Island, in the county of Queens and State of New VYork, have invented certain new 4and useful Improvements in` Tobacco-Users Appliances, ofV

which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to means to enable a smoker to make convenient temporary disposition of a partially-consumed cigar.

A lighted cigar is aptfto be deposited where it can burn a desk or tablefo'r papers lying thereon, and,`1noreover, is apt to get brushed off from` the table andpossibly 4to start a fire smouldering. In many cases, even where there is no other harm` resulting, it is likely to continue tosmoke,fwith possible annoyance to visitors. Besides, the

cigar slowly consumes, ,thereby incurring` waste. If the burningendjof the cigar is knocked off, it is liable to smoulder and possibly burn a hole in acarpet, yoreven to set fire to a building.

It is sometimes the case that after ysmoking a part of the cigar, the smoker does not wish to continue; but owing to these drawbacks, he is apt to lkeep Von smoking until the cigar is used up, thereby really incurring s an unnecessary waste.

Another drawback is that dust settles rapidly upon the cigar, particularly the moistened end thereof, thus making it distasteful for the smoker to use it again. Besides, the moistened end of the cigar is apt to come into contact with a surfacefwhich may be the abode of germs, so that, upon again smoking the cigar, the user might contract a disease therefrom. s

An object of the invention is to provide a simple, eiiicient, inexpensive and attractive device 'for overcoming these and other difficulties. l i s y ther features and'advantages 'willfhereinafter appear. y I

In use, the lid 13 may be turned back and the cigar, still burning, may be deposited upon the trayl, and then the lid may be closed; and theisnap 16 may catch over a projection 17 on the floorportion, andhold the device closed in substantially air-tight This avoids the necessity of hunting for a place to deposit the burning cigar where it will not scorch or setfire to anything, and where it will keep clean.V The cigar will bepromptly quenched, for lack of. air supply, and the smoke therefrom will` be confined withinthe repository,'which is a desideratum. The cigar is protected from dustl and kept clean, ready for subsequent use. The invention enables la substantial economy to be effected, since it is the prevailing practice to throw away partially-burned the cover 13 to swingv between the portion 12 and the base 19, Figure 6.
