parts which are cheap to manufacture and are easily assembled.
A further object of this invention is to provide a relatively cheap portable lamp of,
rigid structure, capable of being handled in any position as a single unit.
A still further object is to provide a two piece glass lamp open from end to end and adapted to be utilized in connection with a standard electric socket and standard elec tric bulb.
These, as well as other objects which will 7 readily appear to those skilled in this particular art, I attain by means of the device described in the specification and illustrated in the drawings accompanying and forming part of this application. I
The single figure of the draw ng repre-- sents a lamp embodying this invention in sectional elevation, showing a standard lamp socket and lamp in place therein,
The lamp consists of a single piece pe les tal comprising a hollow base portion or foot 2- a hollow stem 3, and a shade or globe portion 4r provided with a socket housing portion 5.
The pedestal portion, including the foot and stem may be pressed from glass, or cast from metal or turned from suitable material such as wood. The globe or shade portion Application filed m 9,

with its depending socket housing is formed length of tubing 11 threaded into the base of socket 8 extends through the stem of the pedestal portion and is held in place therein by means of a washer 12 and a nut 13 threaded onto the lower end of tube 4 and which bears against washer 12. The wires 14 for the socket extend through tube l and out through one of the openings 15 in the pedestal,
The top of the globe or shade portion is provided with an opening 16 of such size as toaccommodate a standard electric bulb 17,
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The comloination in a lamp, of a shade portion provided with a depending socket housing having an annular socket supporting seat formed therein, a pedestal adapted to receive said housing so as to support said shade portion, a lamp socket supported on said seat, a tubular member secured to said socket and extending through said ped estal and means adjacent the bottom of said pedestal and engaging said tubular member for securing said socket on said seat and said pedestal and shade portion together.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name this 5 day of May, 1922.
