SPINNING MACHINE.

To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM SHAW, Sr., a citizen of the United; States', residing at Esmond, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Spin-- ning Machines, of whichthe followingis a speciiication. v
This invention relates -to spinning machines and more particularly to novel means for winding the roving on the bobbins in fly frames and the like, and the primary objects of the invention are first, to provide means for eliminating all strain on the cone belt, second, to provide means for shifting from equal speed of the driveV shaft and bobbin drive gear to excess speed and vice versa, and third,` to make the cone into a driven member instead of a drive member, to permit the carrying out of the various features of the invention. Y
It is a further object of the invention to provide means for revolving the bottom cone in the opposite direction tol that when` the frame is running, when it is'desired to wind the roving on the bobbin.
A still further object of this invention is to provide an improved differential mechanism for spinning machines, of the above character, which will be durable and eilicient in use, onev that will be simple'and easy to manufacture,rand one which can be incorporated in spinning fly frames Q at a minimum cost.
-With these and other' objects in viewA the invention consists in, the novel construction, arrangement and" formation of parts7 'as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in theaccompanying drawings, forming a part of this specificatiominV which drawings:

Referring Ito the drawings in detail, whereinsimilar reference characters designate vcorresponding parts throughout the several views the vnumeral 10 indicates the main drive-shaft, having a pinion 11 keyed to one end thereof, which is adapted to mesh with an idle pinion 12, having contact with the drive pinion 13. This drive pinion 13 is keyed or otherwise secured to the top cone shaft 14C, on which is mounted in any preferred way the usual top cone 15. The bottom cone 16 is of course similar to the topcone 16 and has the apex or tapered portion thereof disposed opposite to the tapered or apex portion of the top cone 15. The

On fly framesofs the usual construction, at times, when the bottom cone is raised, if the same is not., heldE stationary by some means, it will revolve in the opposite direotion and malte considerable tronble by breaking and tangling the ends. In a fly frame, a drive shaft, top and bottom cones, a cone belt for connecting the cones together, means for driving the drive shaft lfrom the upper cone, a driven shaft, means connecting the bottom cone and the driven shaft together, a differential sleeve mounted upon the drive shaft, a bobbin drive gear carried by the sleeve, a second differential sleeve, a sliding differential sleeve feathered upon said second differential sleeve, a spur gear secured to the second mentioned differential sleeve, a cross piece secured to the drive shaft, spur gears carried by the cross piece, a housing rotatable With the first mentioned differential sleeve, a ring gear carried by the housing, the spur gears carried by the cross piece meshing respectively With the ring gears and With the spur gear carried by the second mentioned differential sleeve, a relatively large gear carried by the sliding differential sleeve, a relatively small gear connected with the driven shaft and meshing with the relatively large gear, a stationary clutch section formed on the drive shaft, a sliding clutch section formed on the sliding differential sleeve, and means for synchronously raising the bottom cone end for sliding the sliding dierential sleeve for moving the clutch section carried thereby into engagement with the stationary clutch sectionk and the relatively large gear out of mesh with the relatively'small gear.
