The discharge end of the cylinder 1 is equipped with a clamping. ring having external threads 21 engaging within the inner threads of the cylinder and which is designed as an attachment holder for clamping between it and a shoulder26 arranged in the cylinder the attachment to be secured. This ring is equipped on its outer edge with a plurality of lugs 22 which form feet to support the cylinder when used as a steam er as shown in Fig. 5 and which are adapted to be engaged by a spanner wrench to facilitate the application and removal of the ring.
A sieve or strainer 23 having comparatively large discharge apertures has an annular flange 24 located between the ring 20 and the cylinder wall as shown clearly in Fig. 1. A finer mesh strainer 25 in the form of a concave disk is carried by the strainer 23 and is clamped between it and a shoulder 26 formed inthe cylinder wall.
The above described parts of the device are common to it when used as a steam cooker or as a press. For instance when utilized as ,a steam cooker, the sieve and the clamping ring 20 is removed and the follower 15 is moved to the inner end of the cylinder to bear against the wall 7. The cylinder is filled or partially filled with any food product to be cooked and pressed and the sieve and thering 20 are then replaced. The cylinder thus filled with food to be cooked is then stood in an open receptacle partially filled with water and placed over heat sufiicient to generate steam for cooking the contents of the cylinder.
After the food contained in the cylinder has been sufficiently cooked and the cylinder is applied to the bracket 2 as shown in Fig. 1
in a manner presently to be explained in order that the contents of the cylinder may be either pressed into its discharge end or expressed from the cylinder thru the sieve as desired.
The bracket 2 preferably cast in a single piece includes spaced jaws 27 and 23 adap'ted to engage above and below the edge portion of a table 29 or other suitable support and the bracket is attached to said table by a clamping screw 30 threaded through the lower arm or jaw 27 and having a swivelly connected head 31 engageable with the lower face of the table and adapted to fit within a seat 31 in the jaw 27. The other end of the clamping screw 30 is equipped with a cross bar 32 having a thumb piece 33. The upper end of the bracket 2 is provided with a projecting nose 34 having an upstanding trunnion 35. The bracket is formed intermediate its height with a forwardly directing arm 36 having an upstanding trunnion 37 in ver' tical alinement with the trunnion 35. The cylinder 1 is provided between its rear end and the wall 7 with diametrically opposite openings to fit over the trunnions and 37. Obviously when the cylinder is applied to the bracket in the manner shown in Fig. 1 it will be held against any movement other than swinging and vertical movement because of engagement with the trunnion.
To hold the cylinder against swinging and vertical movement an adjustable clamp is providedv to take-up any wear or lost motion between the bracket and the cylinder. This clamp which is indicated at 38 inF'ig. 1 is constructed similar to the clamp shown in my patent above referred to in Figs. 1 and 3 thereof.
A shield 39 constructed in the form shown in Fig. 3 is designed to be mounted over the cylinder 1 as shown in Fig. 1 and carries at its outer end a plate 40 which when applied is designed to be spaced from the locking ring 20 of the cylinder and provide at the lower portion thereof a mouth 41for the discharge of the 'materialcompressed in the cylinder. V
This shield 39 is providedat its open small end with an aperture 41 to be engaged with the trunnion35 for supporting the shield in operative position as shown in Fig. 1.
This improved press may also be utilized as a sausage stufl'er or machine by removing the strainer ring 20 and the screens or sieves 23 and 25 substituting therefor the attachment shown in Fig. 8. This attachment includes a supporting ring or flange 42 adapted to fit in the cylinder between the ring 20 and the shoulder 26 with a disk-like plate 43 occupying'the position now filled by the screens 23 and 25. The plate 43 has a central opening surrounded by a central conical or tapered discharge spout 44 through which the filling material for the sausage may be pressed in a manner which will be well understood. 1
The spanner wrench 45 shown in detail in Fig. 9 includes a hammer 46 cast "in one piece with the wrench and which is designed to be used for jarring loose the screw ring' 20 by tapping on the lugs or legs 22 of said ring.
This device may be used for cooking vegetables and separating the peeling, fiber and lumps therefrom also to cook fruit and simi lar food products. The cooking is accompl'ished by putting the raw material into the cylinder 1 steam cooking it and pressing it out through the screens 23 and 25 so that it will be delivered peeled and riced and require only one'dish to be washed.
I claim In a culinary device, a food holding receptacle open at one end, saidend havingan outward pressed shoulder to form an internal abutment, a strainer carrying rirw carried within said receptacle end an ring working loose in the flange of the screen the cylinder and means for connectionwith adapted to abut said shoulder, a clamping In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signa- 10 ture in the presence of two witnesses.
LAWRENCE H; TAYLOR.
or strainer, said clamping ring having a plurality of lugs extending outward to perform the double function of supporting. feet for a wrench, a follower mounted in'said cylinder and means for actuating the follower.
