PATENT ibplication filed April 4, i924. senarivaromsvi To allwhom it may concern? v v Be it known that I, J on *B."-BRAI-)"EIHAW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stanford, in the county of Lincoln and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Can Openers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The present inventionv provides a device adapted to be attached to' a suitable sup-' port, such as a table,shelf or bracket and which pail or the like-which has been sealed and which is provided with means for opening the package by cutting a portion from the top thereof. 7

Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.

While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention. 7

"the pressure of one required adjusted position by means of a setv screw 18. A vertically disposed sleeve 19 at one end of the'arm 17 receives a plunger 20 which is normally held elevated by means of a helical spring 21 which is confined between the sleeve 19 and a head 22 at the upper end of the plunger. A centering point 23 is provided at the lower end of the plunger 20 and is offset so as to engage under the portion of the top of the can to hold the plunger lowered position and lift the top after being completely severed. A handlebar 24 is mounted upon the lower its-bracket 12in; "secured --to itheppposite end 7 end of the plunger 20 and is provided with cutters 25 at opposite sides of the plunger, said cutters being adjustable according to the size of the can or other package to be opened. Slots 26 are formed in the handlebar 24 to admit of adjustment of the cutters 25 and winged nuts 27 mounted upon threaded stems 28 of the cutters provided for securing the latter in the required adjusted position. It is observed that the device is made fast in any preferred way to a suitable support and the can or other article to be opened is placed upon the base 10 and clamped between the jaws 14, after which the plunger 22 is lowered to cause the centering point 23 and the ends of the cutters 25 to penetrate the top of the can. Upon turning the handlebar 24 about one-half of a revolution, a portion is cut from the top of the can, this being due to the provision of the two cutters 25 which are located upon opposite sides of the plunger. It is observed that the plungfr is held lowered by and exerted thereon, while the other hand is used to operate the cutter by rotating the handlebar 24. After the can has been opened, both the handlebar and plunger are released and the spring 21 elevates both and lifts the portion of the top out from the i What is claimed is:
