nnrr PAN.
AApplication tiled Hatch 27, 1925. Serial lo. 18,852.
Y To all whom t may concern: i
Be it known that I, RUDOLPH A. RIEK,
a citizen of the United States, residing at- Rhinelander,0 the county of Oneida and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Drip "Pan, of which the following is a specification.
This invention "relates to refrigerators and more especially to, means whereby water of condensation accumulating upon the bottoin surface of the ice tank and upon the outer surfaces of the/walls of the tank. can be collected without dripping into the'provision compartment thereunder, the water thus collected, being carried oi with the ice i water'.
One of Vthe objects of the invention is to provide a vdrip pan which is out of the way when in use, does not detract from the appearance of the krefrigerator in any way, and will act efficiently to collectall water of condensation formed upon any part of the ice tank..
Another ohject'is to provide sim/ple andl e'cient means for supporting the drip pan Y beneath the ice tank.
" bottom 2, the tank having'its wa rfrom the linin;
` tion of the front frame With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear" as the description proceeds,the invention resides in the combination and arrangement ot :parts andin the details ot construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being =understood that chan es in the precise embodiment of theinvention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing rornthe spirit of the invention.
ln the accom anym drawings the preterred form o the invention has been shown. ln said drawingsf Figure l is a vertical section through the lowerV portion of the ice tank havingthe present improvements combined therewith, said section being Fig. 2 is a section von line 2 2, Fig. fl.
Fi 3 is a section on line 3--3, Fig.. 2.
Re erring to the gures by characters of reference 1 designates a ortion of an ice tank, this tank being provided asordinarily,
inclined ls spaced L `of the refrigeratorand with a downwardly and rearwardl bein provide war ly and forwardly inclined supporting a ron 3 attached at its ulpper end to apor;
of the refrigeraly,"this flange taken from front to rear.
at its front, `with an up.
tor. Thus it will be seen that the'bottom 2 the bottom and is also inclined downwardly and rearwardly, there being a drain pipe 5 pro'ecting downwardly from the rear or lower portion of this pan.
An opening 6 is provided in and is surrounded by a flange 7 .which is curved upwardly, inwardly, and downwardkbeing vprovided at diametrically opposed points with openings 8. Another opening 9 is orinedin the' bottom of the pan 4: and is surrounded by a ange 10 adapted to project'upwardly into the space surrounded by the flange 7. This flan e 10 is preferably ton es 11 are Aextended from the pan 4 and project through the openings 8, these tongues 4being bent down at their ends as shown at l2 so as to prevent downward withdrawal from the openings Sand proper-1i 'the ,bottom 24 curved 'as shown. Ben able that when the pan is' scribed any water of condensation that may form' upon the outer surface ot the tank or vupon'the bottom thereof will drain downwardly into the pan because this pan entends outwardly beyond all sides ot the bottom 2. Furthermore any water of condensation x toi-ming under the curved Harige 'Z' will likewise drain into the pan. Uhviously, therefore, when an ice rack of any preferred construction is placed over the opening 6 where it will rest upon the bottom Vot the ice tenir, no moisture will drain downwardly into the provision compartment under the ice tank. instead all oit-the moisture both condensed and that resulting trom the melting ot the ice will 5 and properl delivered from the refrigerator.
lt will be seen that the pan can he applied readily simply by inserting the tongues ll upwardly into the opening 8 and then bending down the upper ends of the tongues, as shown.,
e bottom of ing'lB in .the lower portion thereof through which ice water can drain inte the drip pan.
What is claimed is Il. ln a refrigerator the combination with an ice tank having an opening for the circulation of air through the bottom thereof, cfa
pan extending under the bottom of the tank,
the tank has an outlet open# tol be conducted to the pipe said pan and tank being spaced apart at all jecting into the opening into the tank.4
2. In a refrigerator the combination with an ice tank having an opening for the circulation of airthrough the bottom thereof, of means for collecting water of condensation from the surfaces of the tank and ice water from the interior of the tank, said means including a pan extending under and surrounding the bottom of the tank, said pan and tank being spaced apart at all points, there being an opening in the pan for the circulation of air therethrough, and a flange surrounding said opening and projectingl into the opening in the tank.
3. In a refrigerator, the combination with Lan ice tank having an opening in the bottom thereof'for the downward How of air, and a drain opening, of means for collecting ice water from the drain opening and water of condensation frointhe surface of the tank, said means including a pan extending under and surrounding the bottom ofthe tank, but
spaced therefrom, said pan 'having an outlet projecting into theopening in the bottom ofl the tank, and means for suspending the pan from the tank. V T
4. In a refrigerator, the combination with an ice tank having an opening in the bottom thereof for the downward flow of air, and a drain opening, of a drip pan extending under and surrounding the bottom of the ice tank but spaced therefrom, an opening in the bottom 'of the pan for the downward flow of air leaving the tank, a flange surrounding said openingl and projecting `into the opening in the bottom of the tank,'and bendable ton es extending upwardly from the pan and t rough the bottom of the tank for supporting the pan from the tank.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my nown I have hereto alixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
RUDOLPH A. RIEK.
