In the drawings, Wherein'iior the purpose of illustration'is shown a preferred cnibodi- 'inent of this inventiom'the numeral desig- 'nates the powder can which may be 1 iiiaiiutact'ured from any suitable inet-allicinaterial and is preferably of hash formation.
This can 5 has a tapered ne'ck-GWliich terminates in an opening. Tat its upper'end.
Inserted through one side of the tapered neck '6 and projecting inW-ardly and entwa'rdly o-fthe Wall of the can 5-is 'a tub'ular re'ceptacle '8 "which is closed at its innerend and opened 7 at its outer end and is employed forreceiving squibs or fuses used byfaniiiier for firing his powder charges. 7

In Fig. 5tlieopening 71s illustrated as li'avingthe'easing orcovering terminating in aliiieinent therewith and 'entirelyencii'cling tlieinetallic portion 'ot'the can which forms the said opening.
It is to be'understood thatthe portion of the insulating blank which encloses the: projecting .part of the "auxiliary receptacle- 8 also terinii'i'ates 'atthe edge of its-upper open end. I
' The oval shapedbottomportion13 of'the casing or covering is stitched in the direction of its lengtl'i and for approximately half of its periphery, as at l i, tothe bottom edge of the bodyjpo'rtion of the casing, as illustrated. The remaining portion of the periphery of the bottom 13 has "stitched thereto a substantially recta'ngularly shaped fi'ap 15 which is intendcdto bQ'POSltlOHBCl'tO extend transversely around'th'e bottom porjtion ofth'e'body ot'tlie'blank. as illustrated in Fig. 3 and to be attached tosa-idbody portion, "at its free longitudinal edge, by the snap fasteners 16.
llO
For the purpose of closing the openings to the interior of the body portion 5 of the can and the auxiliary receptacle 8, plugs 21 are provided and encased in the same insulating material which forms the covering or casing, as at 22, see Fig. 5. Suitably secured to the outer end face of each encased plug 20 is a flaring cap 23 which is formed of the same insulating material and is adapted for encircling the edge of the blank forming the casing or covering which is arranged in proximity to the said openings. It will be seen that this rap 23 forms a backing or covering for preventing leakage around the plug 21. It is also to be understood that the open end of the auxiliary receptacle 8 is closed by a similar plug and cap. For the purpose of aiding in removing these plugs and caps and for preventing the same from being lost, cords 2 1 and 25 are inserted through the plugs, as at 26, see Fig. 5, and knotted at their inner ends, as at 27. The free ends of these cords id and 25 are secured to the body portion of the casing or covering by the straps 28 and 29 respectively which are stitched to the said casing or covering.
For the purpose of permitting the can to be carried from place to place by a miner, a plurality of straps 30 are stitched at their opposite ends to the body portion of the casing or covering and are adapted for receiving the strap 31 which is laced therethru and is intended to have its ends 31 connected to a shoulder strap or handle strap by means of suitable buckles. This shoulder strap or handle strap with its buckles has not been illustrated as it does not form a part of the present invention.
It will be seen that when the user of this can intends to pour powder therefrom, the plug 21 is removed from the opening 7, by pulling upon the cord 2st. The powder may then be poured from the can. hen the owner of' the can desires to obtain a squib or fuse, the remaining cap or the cap closing the auxiliary receptacle 8 may then be removed by pulling upon the cord 25.
These straps and plugs may as readily be returned to their proper places. Should the metallic powder can become unsuitable for use, the outer sealing flap 17 may be disconnected at the snap fasteners 20, from the body portion of the casing or covering and folded upwardly, as illustrated in Fig. 3. The snap fasteners 16, for the inner flap 15, may then be separated and this flap 15 pulled downwardly, as illustrated in Fig. 3, for removing the bottom 13 of the casing from the bottom end of the can. The can may then be withdrawn from the casing and anew can put in its place.
It is to be understood that the form of this invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim 1. In a device of the type described, the combination with a metallic powder can having the form of a flask, of an insulating removable covering for entirely enclosing said can, said covering including a body portion, and a bottom having a portion of its edge permanently attached to said body portion, and having its remaining edge portion detachably attached to the body portion.
2. In a device of the type described, the combination with a metallic powder can having the form of a flask, of an insulating removable covering for said can, said cover ing including a body portion, a bottom partially attached to said body portion, and a flap carried by the free portion of said bot tom and adapted to be separably attached to one side wall of said body portion for maintaining the bottom in place.
3. In a device of the type described, the combination with a metallic powder can having the form of a flask, of an insulating removable covering for said can, said covering including a body portion, a bottom partially attached to said body portion, a flap carried by the free portion of said bottom and adapted to be separably attached to one side wall of said body portion for maintaining the bottom in place, and an auxiliary flap permanently secured to said body portion and detachably held in place to overlie the free edges of the flap carried by the bottom.
In testimony whereof I affix my signa ture.
MIKE POLIK.
