ANTONIO ron'rr, or NEW YORK, N Y.
HAT-HOLDING- DEVICE.
Application filed December T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AN'roNIo FoR'rI, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hat-Holding Dcvices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for holding hats and the principal object is to produce a device of this nature which shall be simple of construction, cheap to manufacture and highly efficient for thepurpose for which it is designed.
Another object is to provide a device of this nature in which the end blocks are automatically adjusted to-the hat and in which the side blocks are quickly adjusted by'manual means.
Another object is to provide the end block devices with manipulative means for operating them.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a device.
Figure 2 is a vertical section on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a horizontal section on line 33 of Figure 2.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts in all views.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 10 represents a bearing member formed in the shape of a cross and having two of its legs plan view of my improved hollow so as to form chambers and the other 5, 1921. Serial No. 520,145.
members 11 are reversely threaded so that by turning the members 13 the side block members 14 will be moved horizontally. The legs 12 are not threaded but are provided with side slots 15 through which pro ject stops or arcuate shaped finger pieces 16 secured in the ends of rods '17. Springs 18 in the legs 12 force the rods17 outwardly, said rods carrying at their outer ends front and rear block members 19.
\Vhen the block or holding device is to be inserted. in a hat, the operator grips the device by the members 16 and moving the rods 17 centrally. He then inserts the entire device in the hat and releases the rods 17 which are immediately driven outwardly by the springs 18 until members 19 are in contact with the hat. The side members 14 are then adjusted to proper position against the sides of the hat by adjusting the sleeves 13 and the device is in position for use.
It will be seen that in this manner I produce means which will be quickly and readily adjusted tothe hat and will permit the proper blocking of the hat both in width and length.
Whatis claimed as new is A hat holding device of the character described comprising a cross shaped bearing member, oppositely disposed threaded legs included in said bearing member, oppositely disposed hollow legs arranged at right angles to the threaded legs and being provided with oppositely disposed longitudinally arranged slots, rods mounted for slidable movement Within the hollow legs and projecting therefrom, arcuate shaped finger pieces extending from the opposite sides of the rods and passing through said slots to limit the outward movement of the rods, springs arranged in said hollow legs and tending to force the rods to their outward position, and a series of blocks secured to the rods and also as sociated with said threaded legs as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature. I
ANTONIO FORTI.
