LIQUID ADHESIVE HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN PAUL BURNETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at NVhitakers, in the county of Edgecombe and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Liquid Adhesive Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a liquid holder for glue, mucilage and other similar materials and has for its principal object to provide a device of this nature from which the glue may be easily and conveniently applied to various articles such as labels or the like.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature having a very simple and eflicient construction, one which is reliable in use and operation, inexpensive to manufacture, strong, durable, compact, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that 1 designates an oblong container having a cover 2 held in place by screws 3 or other suitable fastening element. The cover is provided with a rectangular shaped opening 4 which may be of any other suitable shape. VVithin this opening and depending into the container there is disposed a sponge box 5 having its walls and bottom perforated as at 6. 'lh1s box contalnspreferably a rubber sponge 7 which is sufliclently large so as to extend slightly above the top level of theliquid within the container 5. An opening 8 is also provided in the cover 2 and is normally closed by a plug or stopper 9 or any suitable means.

A pad 10 provided with a handle 11 is adapted to be seated within the opening 4 so as to rest on the top of the sponge 7 situated in box 5. When the container is filled with liquid as is shown in Figure 2 it will be seen that by pressing downwardly upon the handle 11 the pad 10 will be wetted by the liquid of the container which has been saturated in the sponge 7 as it is squeezed by the downward movement of the pad.

The pad 10 may be applied to a label or the like in any suitable manner, One convenient way ,of doing so is to provide a block 12 011 the cover 2 placing the label thereon and then applying the pad to the label.

This block 1s made very small in order that most any label will completely cover it so that no mucilage will come into contact therewith. I i

It is evident that the device is useful in various other ways and I of course merely mention one above by way of example to demonstrate the utility of the device and not in any way to, limit the use thereof. It is also evident that numerous changes in the details of construction, in the materials, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as V hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

' Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. A device of the class described including a container, a cover on the container and provided with an opening, a box depending through the opening in'to the container, a sponge element disposed within the box, and a pad resting on the sponge element within the box and filling the opening.

2AA device of the class described including a container, a cover for the container, sald cover provided with an opening, a box depending from the opening into the con tainer, a pad slidable into the box and normally forming a removable closure for the latter, a handle forthe pad, said box provided with perforated side walls and bottom, and a sponge in the box supporting the pad.

3. A device of the class described including a container, a cover for the container,

said cover provided With an opening, a box depending from the opening into the container and provided With perforated Walls and bottom, a pad adapted to be disposed in the box and filling the opening, a sponge element in the boX to support the pad so that its upper face is coplanar with the upper face of the cover, and a block disposed on the cover for cooperation With the pad iii-pasting labels or the like.
