Be it known that I, ANDREW JOHNSON STEWART, Va citizen of the United States, residing at 309 IV. North Street, Lebanon, in the county of Boone and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and usefulIii'iproveinent in Combination Kitchen Cabinets and Ironing Boards, of which the followingI is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being,` had to the accompanying drawings, forming,` a part of this specification.

My invention relates `to combination furniture and pertains more particularly to an improved combination kitchen-cabinet and i roniiig-board.Y

An obj ect of my invention is the provision of an improved furniture combination comprising a kitchen-cabinet and an ironinglioard so connected thereto that it may be arranged and firmly supported, for use, over the top or horizontal supporting surface of the cabinet, and quickly and conveniently swung from position for use over said surface and out of the way, when not in use, so as not to interfere with access to or the use of the cabinet.

Another object is the provision of an iniproved connection between the cabinet and the board and an improved mounting of the board to the above ends.

Further objects are to facilitato swinging` of the board into and out of position for use; to provide for firmly and rigidly supportinn* the board for use over the top or supportingv surface Vof the cabinet and to provide such a mounting for the board that it will not be subject to accidental displace-v vment from the position into which it is swung when not in use.

A` further object is the provision of a conipact coii'ibiiiation l-:itchen-cabinet and ironing-board which shall be of novel construe` tion and siniple and convenient to use in' either connection.

Still further objects and advantages `and the novel arrangement and structural features will appear from the following detailed description and the claims taken with an inspection of the accompanying drawings in which; 4

In the embodiment selected ,for illustration,ktheicabinet comprises an enclosed base suitably partitioned or divided upinto a base cupboard G and a plurality of drawers 7. The base provided withV suitable framework Sat its respective corners, the lowerends of which formsupportingV legs for the cabinet. A-top 9 is arranged horizontally over the top of the framework of the base and forms Athe usual top or working surface of the cabinet. It is to be understood that the top 9 may be provided with a suitable covering 10. as shown, or it may be made `of porcelain or finished like therest of the cabinet, or in any other manner as desired.

An upright framework 11 ii'iouiited above the rear portion of the topDthrough suitable bracket members provides with thel partitions, shelves and doors shown, additional compartments for dishes, packages, jars, etc. The particular compartment arrangement ofthe cabinet may, ofcourse, be varied, the drawings showingthe compartii'ieiit arrangen'ient in one particular style of combination kitchen-cabinet and ironingvboard it is now being n'iaiiufactured.

The bottom of the upright fraii'iework 11 is provided with a base hoard 12 which extends horizontally over the 'rear portion of the top 9. ,A horizontal shelf 13 carried by the framework 11 is arranged parallel with the baseboardl and spaced vertically upwardly therefrom to define a compartment 14 within which and between the base board 12 and shelf 13the ironing-board 15 is pivotally journaled upon the shank of a bolt 16. The head of the bolt 16 engages in a fili recess provided therefor in` thev upper siii'- face of the shelf-13. rEhe slianl extends through the shelf 13 through an opening 17 in the board 15 and into and is securediii the lbase bard12, or it may extend through the same and v,be threaded into a mit 1 8 as shown in Figure 2, or be otherwise secured in place.

Thile the shape of the board as shown is preferable in this particular embodiment,

obviously the board per se may be shaped asV desired. A block 19 cut outat oneend as shown at 2O to facilitate-grasping the same is provided with a pair of angularlyV projecting dowel pins 21 for insertion in to holes in the frontA edge of the board to detachably secure the block 19 thereto. The block 19 is adapted to be conveniently grasped when the board is in its normal position within the compartment 14; as shown in full lines in Figure 2 and the board lswung through a horizontal plane out intoihorizontal position ovei the top 9 as shown in full linesin-Figure 1 andv in dotted lines in Figure. 2. The block 19, the thickness of-:whieh is substantially the same ast-he distance between the surface of the top 9 andthe under surface of the board 15 is .then removed from the board by withdrawing the-pins 21 from the openings in the front edgeythereof and is positioned V4between the topy 9 and the under surface ofthe board 15 as shown in i Figure 1. The board is thereby firmly and rigidly supported foi' use over the top 9 of the cabinet. y

'Ihe free end of the board may, ofcourse, be strengthened when an exceptionally long board is desirable. The opening 17 is positioiied in the embodiment shown atthefr-ont left-hand corner of the board and the adj acent corner of the board is preferably rounded as shown at 22 to permit the desired pivotal movement ,ofthe same. i

The front of the compartment 14 .is preferably provided with a door 2,5 hingedly connected by suitable hinges 26 to the front edge of the shelf 13. `One ofthe-leaves of each of the hinges is secured to the shelf 13 and the other leaf to the door 25.
