Application filed c mb 22, 1920. .Seria1, No418,7"/O.
To aZZ whom it may concern,
Be it known that'wegOsn ii; SIMENSEN, bookbinder, and AXELQCOLBAN, bookbi'nder, citizens of Norway, both residing-at Kirkegaten 34E, Christiania, lt'orvi'a vg. havefinvented-certain new and useful Improvements" in i or Relating to Temporary Binders v(for which we have filed an application in Non way March 31, 1919, No. l6,185),of which the following is at-specification.
Various systems of portfoliosorbinders for registering or filing documents are al-. ready known. In thecase of the'systems now best known the documents or periodicals which are to be placed in the binder are when fresh documents are inserted, more particularly if numerous documents are already contained in the portfolio.
Now the object ofthe present-invention is to do away with these drawbacks, and it is characterized more especially by the fact that clip-bars .made of flexible material are inserted in holders mounted in each end of the binder. The ends of the clip-bars are provided with grooves 0r notches-theobject of which is to hold the clip-bars fast by engaging both ends of suitably shaped flanges provided in the holders. p
In the accompanying drawings a constructional form of the invention is shown by way of example. H i
Fig. 1 is an end view of the binder,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the inside of the binder.
-Fig. 3 is a sectional viewon the line 11 ofFig. 2.
Fig; 4 illustrates asingle clip bar,
In the drawings 1 designates the back of the binder and 2 are the covers which are attached to the latter by means, of flexible connecting parts 3. On'the inside of the The first system undoubt holders 4 the outer ends 'of which'iare bent upwardly and inwardly to form flanges 5, facing each other. The sides of the holders are also bent upwards to formjprojecting ng I r v p .In the drawings the flanges 5' are shown parallel, but, it may bemore advantageous to arrange ,the flanges so that they converge towardstheside upon which the documents are; inserted, thus ensuring a more secure "clamping of clip-bars 7 hereinafter described. M r
Theclip-bars 7, or it may be clip-rods,
consist of thin flexible strips ofmetal or other suitable material. The ends of the clip-bars are provided with grooves or recesses 8, which engage with the flanges 5 whereby they are held in position. The
side flanges 6 serve to restrict. the move:
ment of the clip-bars or'rods in a lateral direction.
The outermost clip bar 9 is by prefer ence thicker or stronger than the others and is provided ateach end with suitably formed springs '10, which bear against the flange 6 on the one side of the holders at each end of the binder; the springs serving to press the clip-bars against the opposite sides of the holders, so that thewhole arrangement becomes rigid and immovable.
The documents or papers to be bound are turned over along their inner edges and then the clip bars areinserted in the folded portion. The clip-bars are now engaged between the flanges 5 of the holders by bending or deflecting the'clip bars suflicient- 1y to permit the flanges 5 to enter the I grooves 8, or otherwise, and when all the clip-bars are properly placed in positlon the rod 9 with the spring jl0is inserted on the one side to preventtheclip-bars frombecoming disengaged. With this. arrangement it'is possible to take out any individual document required and reinsert" it at I any point that may be desired on the binder.
Having thus fully describedour-invention what we claim as new anddesire to 'secure by Letters Patent is 1. p In a temporary binder and in combination withthe covers anda back therefor,
a binder comprising plates secured ad-- jacent the ends on the back and each having a channel extending across the back and side flanges extending at right angles to the back, a 1 plurality of binder members each adapted to removably engage with and move .on the outer members of: the said channels; and means enactingbetween one of the said binder members and one set of said side flanges for normally pressing the said binder members against the outer set of said flanges.
2. In a temporary binder and in con1bination with the covers and a connecting back therefor, abinder comprising plates secured adjacent the ends of the back and each having a channel extending across the back and side flanges extending at right angles to the back; a plurality of binder strips each being slotted at its ends to engage the outer member forming the said channels of said plates, and means coacting between one of the said binder stripsand one set of thesaid side flanges for normally pressing the said binder strips against the other set of side flanges. r 3. In a temporary binder and in combination Wlth thB covers and a connecting back therefor, a binder comprising plates secured adjacent'the ends of the back and each having a channel extending across the back and side flanges extending at, right angles to the back a plurality of binder strips each beingslotted at its ends to engage the outer member forming the said channels of said plates, and springs attached to one of the outer binding strips, each spring being adapted to yieldingly engage a side flange of one of the said plates to normally press the ends of the said binder strips'together and against the other side flange ofthe corresponding plate.
In testimony whereof we afiix our tures in presence of two Witnesses.
