This invention relates "to pitch burners adapted to utilize pitch and other similar product which has been a complete or partial waste due to inetl'ective methods of burning the same.
The principal object of the invention is to take this pitch, or other material. reduc:

By referring to Figure 1 it, will be seen that the device may be built so as to rest upon a floor level 1. Upon-this floor level 1 there is provided a support structure 2, having side arched openings Resting upon the side support structure 2 is a water cooled member 1. It will be seen that this water cooled member 4 forms an incline with the lower end 5 extendinginto a combustion chamber 6. This water cooled member 4. is provided with the intake and outy rring to Figure Qit will be seen. that there is located upon the water cooled member 4 two water cooled members 8. with inlet and outlet openings 10. Positioned upon this steam heated base 9 is a pitch hopper 11 which is provided with an opening 12' facing the furnace. In front oi this opening 12 there is a gate 13 pro- VlClQd with a'plurality of openings 14:, and having a lower arch shaped opening 15.
This gate 13. is used to regulateand dis-t tribute the heat coming from the combus 131011 chamber 6 throughthe openingvltijand passing the gate l'lwhich is provided with a lever 18 so. as to shiftthe position of the gate 17 as desired.
The water cooled member 4 and the water cooled members 8 are cooled so as to regulate the heat and to keep the heat from reaching a temperature suflicient to ignite the pitch within the pitch hopper 11.
The steam heated base 9 tends to regulate the temperature ofthe pitch hopper 11 in order to heat the pitch within the hopper and still tend to keepthe pitch within the hopper from reaching an undesirable temperature.

The gate 17 above referred tomay be cooled in any ordinary way; that is, the gate probably would be hollow with an ordinary inlet and outlet. The object of cooling this gate is to keep the same from warping or melting, due to the extreme heat subjected to the same.
By again referring to Figure it will be seen that we have provided an opening 19 under the lower portion of the steam heated "base 9. The object of this vopening 19 is to provide means for admitting forcedand heated air down'the incline formed by the upper surface of the water cooled member 4:. Asthe pitch becomes melted 1n the hopper 11 the same runs downthe incline formed on top neath the gate 17, and then into a diverging channel 20 where the liquid is subjected to a thorough mixing in the combustionchamber 6 by means of compressed air travelling through the pipe 21, the drum 22, and i plurality of outlets 23, which are formed heated base 9 may be heated p of the water cooled member 46 under a at right angles:- to the drunrQQ.
