DISPENSING DEVICE.
Application filed June 9,
T '0 all W/LOWL it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUSSELL S. ALLINE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, and State of @hio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dispensing Devices. of
which the following is a specification, the.
principle of the invention being herein explained and the best mode in which l have contemplated applying that principle, so to distinguish it from other inventions.
The present invention relates to a device for holding a box of soap and dispensing the same, together with towels and more particularly to a device which can be conveniently attached to an automobile or the like, so that it will be inconspicuous and so arranged that boxes of cleansing soap. may be inserted in and removed from the deviceand be readily availablefor use, together with paper towels. To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, said invention, then, consists of the means hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims. v
The annexed drawing and the following description set forth indetail certainmechanism embodying the invention, such disclosed means constituting, however, but one of various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be used.
In said annexed drawing p i Fig. 1 is a central vertical section through the device; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a portion of the edge of the box showing the turned down ears in dotted line; Fig. a is a perspective view of a modi fied form of holding member; Fig. 5 is a broken sectional view of the form shown in Fig. 4-; Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 but showing a modification, Fig. 7 is a fragmentary elevation of another modified form of can holding means; Fig. 8 is an elevational view partially in section of another. modification; Fig. 9 is a sectional view of a modified form; and Fig. 10 is a sectional 1view of another form of can holdingmem- In the form shown in Figs. 1 to 3 the present device consists of a holding member comprising an annular ring 1 provided with a horizontally extending annular flange 2 and this holding member is securely attached to a supporting bracket 3 by means of rivets 4: or the like, the bracket having a depending 1922. Serial No. 587,005.
end 5 provided with apertures 6 adapted to receive screws 7 or the like to hold the bracket and holding member to the automobile frame or other fixed body 8 to which it is to be attached. This annular holding member is of such a size as to snugly receive the ordinary type of round tin box or can 9, in which the usual cleansing soap 10 is packed. and in order to mount the box or can of soap in the memher, it is slipped in from the bottom and the can i is provided with cars 11 which vare punched so that they can be bent outwardly at right angles to the plane of the wall of the canv into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, when the can will be supported by these ears onthe horizontal flange of the holding member, as shown inFig. 1.
Mounted on the holding member is a cover 12 of considerable depth, which is hinged as at 13 tothemember above the bracket and this cover is adapted to completely enclose the topiof the can andhas an outwardly turned fiange 14c around the bottom adapted to rest on thehorizontal flange of the'holding member. At the front of the device, the cover isprovided with a spring clip 14 having its lower end 16 rebent so as to en gage below the horizontal flange on the holding member and thus lock the coverin its closed position. ing end 16 of this. clip is adapted to be used as a means for disengaging the clip-and for lifting the cover so as to present the open soap can to the user. Wthin the cover is mounted a spring 20 which is preferably formed of wire, although a flat spring may of course be employed, the ends being attached by rivets 21 or the like to the rear inner surface of the cover and being then coiled as at22 and extending toward the front of the cover in a flat loop 23 which normally tends to spring toward the cover. Folded napkins ortowels, preferabl y paper, are adapted to be placed in The downwardly extend the top of the cover between the spring and the top of Fig. 5 the ring may be clamped below the I ribBZ of the can 91' the ring may be provided with a complementary groove 38 to receive the can rib 37 as shown in Fig. 6.
In Fig. 7 another modification is shown in which the ring ii is provided with slots 42 in which are received pins 43 attached to the cans, the slots having horizontal portions to lock the can against vertical move ment. A slightly difierent form is shownin Fig. 8 in which both the can top 50 and the ring 51 are threaded so that the can may be screwed tightly into the ring. :In the form shown in F 10, the holding. member is a boX or can of a size to receive the soap can, while in Fig. 9 the same construction is employed as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 but here the ring 1 is small enough so that the can must be inserted from the top, the can the can in place.
The present devices are particularly a'dapted 'to be used on automobiles or other places where space is limited, and are adapted to receive cans of cleansing soap ofthetype used to remove grease or the like from the hands of the user and more particularly a soap to be used without water, so that the present device consists of a holder and can which canbe readily attached to a fixed body and which will be inconspicuous and which will furnish the necessary soap as well as towels. In allot the forms, a holdrib' 37 engaging with the flange 2 to hold ing member is provided which is adapted to removably receive and securely hold a can ofsoap in place, the holding member being provided with an easilyroperable cover which holds the towels which are easily removable as soon as the cover is opened.
Other modes of applying the principle of mylinvention may be employed instead of the one explained, change being made as regards the mechanism herein disclosed, provided the means stated by any of the following claimsor the equivalent of such stated means be employed.
I therefore particularly point out and distinctly claim as my invention 1. Ina device of the character described, the combination of a holding member adapted to receive and hold a can, means for attaching said member to a fixed body, and a cover for said member, said cover being provided with towel holding means.
2. .In a device of the character described, the combination of a holding member adapted to receive and hold a can, means for at tachingsaid member to a fixed body, and a cover for said member, said cover being hinged to said member and being provided with a resilient means adapted to retain towels within said cover above the can.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a holding member comprising an annular portion adapted to receive a can, means on said annular portion and can adapted to engage to removably hold said can in said member, a cover for said can and means in said cover for holding towels. above the can.
l. In a device of the character described, the combination oi a holding member adapted to receive a can, means for attaching said member to a fixed body, and a cover for said member, said cover being hinged to said member and being provided with a resil'ent means adapted to retain towels within saic cover above the can and a spring clip on said cover and adapted. in the closed position of said cover to engage with said holding member to lock said cover in its closed position. 7 y
I 5. In a device of the character described,
the combination ota holding member coniprising an annular ring having a horizontal the combination. of aholdingmember comprising an annular ring havinga horizontal annular flange, a soap containing can adapted to snugly fit within said ring and having cut ears adapted to be bent downwardly over said horizontal flange to removably secure said. can in said ring,- and a cover p'ivotally attached to said holding member, said cover being provided with a spring at tached atthe rear side of the cover and extending across'the same and adapted to re tain papertowels between said spring and the interior'ot'said cover, and a spring clip on the front-of said cover adapted tojengage with the horizontal flange of said holding member to lock said cover in closed position. Signed by me this 7th 'day of June, .1 1 a RUSSELL S; ALLINE.
7 6. In. a device ofthe character described,
