To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that l, MELAOH J. NUsIM, a citizen of the United States, a resident of Easton, county of Northampton, and State 5 of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain Impeller, of which the following is a specification, accompanied by drawings.
This invention relates to impellers for centrifugal blowers, compressors and the like, but more particularly to a single or double flow impeller adapted for axial intake and radial discharge. An impeller of the open type is shown,but the invention may be applied to the closed type.
In an impeller of the type to which this invention relates, the web is provided with blades having intake portions for receiving the air or other gas by. an axial approach, and velocity is imparted to the air by radial blade portions, having exit edges at their peripheries.
The objects of' the invention are to strengthen and stiffen the blades and impeller structure by simple means which cheapen the cost of manufacture, and at the same time produce more eiiicient results for the reasons which will appear upon consideration of my drawings, specification and claim.
The. invention is illustrated in oneof its preferred forms in the accompanying drawlugs, in which igure 1 is a top plan view of an impeller embodying the invention.

The blades F are separated from the hub and web but adapted to be secured thereto, and in accordance with this invention, the blades are provided with securing flanges preferably formed by bending the inner edges of the blades substantially throughout their-length at an angle to the surfaces of the blades. The metal of the flanges is crlmped or otherwise shaped at the curved portions H of the blades to conform to the curvature of the hub and web andtlie intake portions J of the blades lie in part directly upon the thickened hub portion and are bent transversely to the axis of rotation in order to increase the intake effect on an axial approach and scoop in the air or gas, as the term may be used. The intake portions J also preferably project beyond the hub portion in an axial direction. The radial portions K of the blades, preferably extend substantially to the periphery of the web E at which' the exit'edges L of the blades are located. The flanges G may be iivteted .or otherwise secured to the web and The construction is light, stiff and strong and presents substantially smooth unbroken working surfaces to the air or gas, since each blade is a unit made up of one piece, and the hub and web together form one piece.
I claim:
An impeller for centrifugal blowers, compressors andthe like, adapted for axial intake and radial discharge and comprising a, thickened hub portion aving' a thinner circular web extending transversely to the longitudinal axis of the hub and merging into the hub in a gradual curve, said web tapering gradually from the hub portion to the periphery of the web, andblades extending from the base of the said thickened hub portion along the sides of the said huband web to the peripheryof the web, and proally, and. the exit edges terminating submetal of said flanges being shaped to constantially at the periphery of the said Web, form to the curved contour of the hub. the inner edges of the blades along both the In testimony whereof I have signed this 10 intake and radial portions being bent subspecification.
