Description

H. B. SANNESS.
DOORKNOB FASTENER.
APPLICATION min fsu. 1. 1921.

HAROLD B. SANNESS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF T0 I-IELIVIER IVI. MADSEN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DOORKNOB FASTENER.
Application filed February 7, 1921.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HAROLD B. SANNnss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Doorknob Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in door knob fasteners, and has for its object the provision of a fastener which is simple, durable and effective,
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of part-s hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Fig. 1 is a side View showing the lock in operative position;
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof; and
Fig. 3 is an end view of a modified form.
The form of invention illustrated comprises a rod 6 having a threaded end 7 which is inserted through the usual opening` 8 con` tained in the sleeve 9 of the inner door knob 10, and is threaded into the usual threaded opening 11 contained in the door knob stem 12 which engages in said sleeve and passes through the door to the knob on the outside. The screw which ordinarily holds the knob 10 on the stem 12 is removed and the threaded end 7 of the rod 6 is inserted in its place in the openings 8 and 11.
A bracket 13 having lateral lugs 14C is fastened to the door adjacent the inner knob, as at 15, and a yoke 16 is mounted between said lugs by means of a pivot pin 17. Said yoke may be swung outward from the door to retain the rod in position, as shown in Figs. land 2, to prevent the door knob and stem from being rotated, or it may be folded against the door, as shown in dotted outline in Fig. 1, thus permitting the rod 6 to be swung vertically and the knob to be rotated.
Serial No. 442,935.
The modified form shown in Fig. 8 is in all respects like the form disclosed above, except that lugs 18 are provided which are made integral with the door plate 19. The rod, yoke and pivot pin are identical with the ones used in the preceding form.
Ihile I have illustrated and described the preferred from of construction, for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of the construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A door knob fastener comprising a member inserted in the sleeve and stem of the knob, movable therewith and extending beyond said knob, and means readily engageable with said member beyond said knob for holding said knob against rotation.
2. A door knob fastener comprising a rod threaded with one end into the knob stem, and a member swingable over the outer end of said rod to retain said rod and knob in position.
3. .A door knob fastener comprising a member detachably fastened with one end into the sleeve and stem of the knob, in place of the usual knob screw, and a yoke swingably mounted on the door to engage over said member and hold said member and knob in position.
4. A door knob fastener comprising a member detachably inserted with one end in the sleeve of a knob, a bracket fastened to the door beside said knob, and a yoke swingably mounted on said bracket to engage over said member and hold the knob in position.
5. A door knob fastener comprising a rod threaded with one end into the knob stem, in place of the usual knob screw; a bracket fastened to the door, adjacent the knob; and a yoke pivotally mounted on Said bracket to In testimony whereof I have signed my be swung over said rod, adjacent said knob, name to this specification in the presence of to bold said rod and knob in position. two subscribing Witnesses.
