WINDOW LIFT.
Application filed March 3, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE B. PENNEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Lifts. of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in window lifts and has for its object the provision of means attachable to the upper window sash with which the upper window may be readily raised or lowered.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Fig. 1 is an elevational view, showmg my device applied to the upper window.
Fig. 2 is an elevational side view of my device.
Fig. 3 is an elevational front view thereof; and
Fig. is a sectional view taken on line 1-4 of Fig. 3.
The form of device illustrated in Fig. 1 comprises a strap or bar 10, preferably constructed of brass, and about inch by inch in size. Each end of this bar is bent back upon itself for a short distance forming a doubled portion or lug 11, adapted to be engaged by the hand. Said ends of the bar are bent laterally from the main portion, as at 12, so that said portions extend substantially at right angles to the main part of the bar and in the same direction, the lugs being positioned a distance apart and in vertical alinement, as shown in Fig. 1. Openings 13 are provided in the bar, through which screws 14 are driven into the upper window sash 15, to fasten the device on said sash at an angle with the window pane 16, as shown in the drawings.
Serial No. 449,327.
It is thusapparent that I have devised a convenient means with which to raise or lower the upper window sash, and thereby avoid the formerinconvenience of requiring a stick orthe like to force down the upper window and likewise to raise the same, nor will it be necessary with this invention to raise the lower sash and operate the upper sash from the outside, with the arm passed through the lower part of the window.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of the construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination with the upper window sash, a bar fastened to the side member of said sash, said bar having its .two ends bent forward and extending in a direction at right angles to said bar to form two separate vertically alined finger engaging lugs, one positioned a distance above the other.
2. In combination with the upper window sash, a bar fastened to the edge of the side member of said sash, said bar having each end bent back upon itself, said doubled portions extending at right angles from said edge and bar to form two finger engaging lugs, one positioned a distance above the other.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HORACE B. PENNEY.
