T 0 aZZw 7mm it may concern Be it known that I, ED\VARD GHETHAM, a subject of the King or Great Britain and Irelanch and a resident of: London, county of London, England, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Grease Shields for Hats and like Headwear, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to grease-shields for hats and like head wear, and has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive device which is easily affixed to a hat or the like and which will effectually prevent the grease from the hair of the head penetrating and disfiguring the material of the hat at parts where the hat or the like touches the head.
The invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is an elevation and edge View.
Figure 2 is a plan View of same.
Figure 3 is a perspective view; and,
Figure 4 is a plan View or a blank of a modification.
In carrying this invention into etfect, the shield comprises a crown-piece a of celluloid or other suitable flexible grease-proof material, of an oval or other elongated form adapted to rest inside the hat against the crown thereof, and having midway of its length upon each sidestrips b and 0 respectively, extending at right angles thereto, of

a sufiicient length to follow the curvature of the side of the hat and extend into the ordinary leather or like sweat-band of the hat where they serve to hold the crown-piece aforesaid securely in a central position in the crown of the hat.
The ends of the strips are preferably pertorated with one or more transverse lines of perforations (Z and may be shortened by tearing elf the desired line of perforations to accommodate the device to difierent sizes of hats.
In combination with the above device a band or strip of celluloid or like flexible grease-proof material may be worn inside the ordinary leather or like sweat-band, and thus will be provided a complete greaseproo'f device for hats and the like.
Ur, as a modification such a band 6 may be combined with the device above described, in which case the blank would be as illustrated in Figure 4.
I claim Grease-shield for head wear comprising a crown-piece, flexible legs and a right-angular extension to one leg to form a band to lie inside the usual sweat-band ot the hat substantiall as described.
