DRAVVING APPARATUS.
Application. led July "lo all whom 2'? may concern.'
Be it knowntliat I, Kann MiiLLnr, a citin zen ot the Republic oi" Switzerland, resid ing at Zurich, Switzerland, `have invented certa-in new and useful Improvements in Drawing liipparatus; and I do hereby declare the Ytollowing to be a clear, full, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art yto which it appertains to make and usethe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters or figures ot reference marked thereon. which form a part of this specification. j
The object ot the present invention is to provide a drawing` apparatus, wherein a frame, adapted to travel on a drawing board, is fitted with a blade serving as a rule, `for the purpose oi' drawing lines parallel to each other.
An exemplitication of the invention is .shown on the accompanying drawing, on which:
Fig. 1 is an elevation with parts shown in sect-ion,
l F ig. 2 is a plan view, some of the parts being shown in section.
Fig. 3 is a section along line A-B of Fin'. 2.
Fig. 4 is a section along line C-D of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of a modification to parts of the exempliication illustra-ted in Figs. 1-4.
In a sleeve 1 ot a frame 7 an axle 2 is rotatably mounted, which is secured against an axial displacement with regard to the sleeve 1 by the end 3 of a set screw 4 screwed through the sleeve 1, which end 3 projects into a circular recess provided on the periphery oli the axle 2. Milled rollers 6 are fixed to the ends of the axle 2. The 'frame 7 is secured to the sleeve 1 and is provided with a vertical support 8. In the latter a bolt 9 is mounted displaceablvin the axial direction, and carries a disc 10 forming the key. To the bolt El a sprag 12.` is linked by means ot part 11. The bolt 9 is under the iniiuence ot a helical spring 111 which tends to press the bolt 9 'continuously upwards. The sprag 12, 13 consists ot a sleeve member 12 and a rod 13 adapted to be adjusted and fixed in the member 12, the tree end oit the sprag is provided with av toot part 15 having a serrated edge. The sprag .12, 13 is intlun enced by a flat spring 16.
1920. Serial No. 398,261.
fit a hoop shaped member 17 of the raine screw provided on the support 8 which serves to limit the movement. oi? the bolt 9 and of the sprag 12, 13 by `co-acting with f the disc l0. i
2O denotes a. rule which is fixed to the trame 7 by needle points 21 provided on the projecting` ends of the frame.
in order to utilize the described apparatus 'tor hatching parts of drawings, the latter is placed on the sheet so that the front edge ol the rule 2() is in the `direction in which the hatching has to be carried out. After a line has been drawn along the edge of the rule 20, the key 10 is pressed down until it strikes against the screw 19. Thereby vthe holt 9 is displaced downwards andtheinclinati on ot the spr-ag ,12, 13 increased which in its normal posit-ion rests in an oblique rdirection with its toot 15 against the sheet by the action ot its own weight and by the pressure ot the spring 16. The sprag 'tub crums on the foot- 15, which is in engagement with the surface oi the drawing board,
and causes the whole drawing apparatus to be shifted. After anotherline has `been drawn along the rule 20, the key 10 is again pressed down in order to attain a further shifting of the drawing apparatus.
ln order to prevent a movement of the apparatus beyond the desired range, which might happen on account ot the persistence of motionot the appara-tus, the energy of which is comparatively great on account of' the large masses conta-inedl in the latter,
'the above .mentioned limiting device or stop 18 is provided. This stop 18 is so adjusted that it co-acts with the toot 15 the moment the key 10 abutsagainst the' screw 19, whereby further movement ot the apparatus is prevented. The adjustment ot thumb screw `1S provides tor the spacing ofthe lines of the hatching.
The toot ot the sprag, r 12, 13 can be modified in as t'ar as it can be provided with one or more knife edges instead of with points shown on the drawing. rlhe milled rollers G are ot a comparatively heavy weight which obtained by dimensioning the rollers correspondingly, choosing a heavy material or filling them with a. heavy material.
The two rollers 6 may be replaced by one long roller as is shown in Fig. 5. The ends or this roller are rotatably mounted in bea-rings 2% and 25, provided onV the frame 26, which have the shape oit loops.
The device tor preventing an undesired drawingv the point Q2 as well as the stop 1S are shown. although only one `of the two is required.
Instead oit' thev point 22 the lower end ot bolt 9 can also be chanelled.
The sleeve l can be fixed rigidly to the axle by screwing up the set screw 4.1
The actuating mechanism can be dispensed with if the appantus is only used for drawing parallel lines like van ordinary T-square. To this end it is, however, not necessary to remove the actuating ymechanism, it can simply be brought out of action for instance by raising part 13, the apparatus may then be shifted at will in both directions of the rotation of the carriage rollers.
