COLLAR CLIP.
Application filed May 20, 1922. Serial No. 562,287.4
T o all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, @scan J. V. FERGUSON, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of the city of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar Clips, of whichthe following is a specification.
My invention relates to a clip which is intended to grasp the two points of a soft collar and to maintain these points fixed with relation to each other, to the tie, and to the shirt of the wearer.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a clip which will hold down the collar points closely against the wearers shirt, and will prevent their rising to permit wrinkling of the collar.
A further object is toprovide a simple, convenient device of this character, and one which may be manufactured at low cost.
My invention comprises the article -of manufacture and the arrangement of the parts thereof which is shown in the accompanying drawings, described in the specification and particularly defined by the claims terminating the same.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown my invention in a form which is now preferred by me.
Figure l is a perspective view of the device in use.
Figure 2 is a section through the shirt and collar points showing my device attached thereto.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of my device.
In all clips which are secured tothe points of a collar, particularly of a soft collar, to keep the points in place about the tie, there hasbeen no provision of means whereby the clip or the collar points may be held down against the shirt bosom of the wearer, and consequently the collar will form itself about the knot of the tie and will soon give the cole lar a wrinkled and mussed appearance. Furthermore, it will rise, and though the points may both be held together, they will curl and stand up away from the wearersA shirt bosom. According to my invention I provide means whereby such clips may be held down against the wearers bosom, thus being intended to slip within the outer bosom flap 3 of a shirt; Preferably this base bar l is of resilient material so that the leg 2 will lie closely adjacent the leg 4, or against a terminal portion 5 thereof which has been vturned back within the U formed by the legs 2 .and 4. The portion 5 serves as a smooth clipping or clamping surface between which and the leg 2 the flap 3 of the shirt may be secured without danger of injury to the shirt, and s0 as to permit ready withdrawal thereof.
I have shown the leg 4 of the U-shaped base bar as crooked at each end. A bar 6 is secured to the leg 4 between its ends, as by welding, soldering, or other suitable means, and its ends 7, which preferably terminate adjacent the ends of the leg 4, are adapted to lie closely thereagainst, forming with the ends of the leg 4 a pair of oppositely disposed fasteners. These are adapted to engage the depending points 8 of a collar 9.
I thus form a connected pair of oppositely disposed fasteners for the collar points 8 and secure to these connected fasteners a third fastener which engages the shirt flap 3. Gbviously the exact form of these fasteners may be varied without departing from the scope of this invention.
l/Vhat I claim as my invention is:
l. A collar clip comprising a pair of oppositely disposed fasteners adapted to engage the two points of a collar, and a third fastener connected thereto and adapted to engage the bosom flap of a shirt.
2. A collar clip comprising a pair of rigidly connected, oppositely disposed fas teners adapted to engage the two points of a collar, and a third fastener rigidly .Connected thereto and adapted to engage the bosom iap of a shirt.
3. A collar clip comprising a connected pair of oppositely disposed fasteners adapted to engage the two points of a collar, and means for securing said fasteners to the shirt beneath the collar.
4. A collar clip comprising a base bar of U shape adapted to receive the bosom flap of a shirt between its legs, and a pair of oppositely disposed fasteners secured thereto and adapted to engage the two points of a collar.
5. A collar clip comprising a base bar of U-shape adapted to receive the bosom flap of a shirt between its legs,` and a pair of oppositely extending resilient fingers forming,
bar of resilient material adapted to receive and hold the bosom of a shirt between the legs of the U, a pair of oppositely extending resilient fingers forming, with said base bar, a pair of spring fasteners adapted to receive and hold the two points of a collar.
Signed at Seattle, King County, Washington, this 18th day of April, 1922.
OSCAR J. V. FERGUSON.
