My invention relates to kmetallic fire doors, y
partitions and Vthe lilre'and has particular reference to the method of y construction which provides for the *circulation of air through the hollow portion of they metal door to prevent the collection of moisture within the door.
The expansion and contraction of the air within a hollow metallic door, together with the changes in temperature to which the walls of the door are subjected, causes the collection and condensation of moisture within the door, which causes rusting lof the metal and deterioration of the heat insulating material.
An object of this invention is to provide a door having small draft openings in the bottom and top in concealed positions, the interior construction of the door being such `as to permit air to circulate through the draft openings and throughoutk the length of the door from top to bottom or from bottom to top, as the tendency of air flow may exist,
A further object of my invention is to provide means at the top of the door to prevent moisture which may collect thereon from entering the door 'through the draft opening.

lt will be observed that by the construction thus described, if the air in the door is warmer than that of` the room into which the openings 16 and 17 discharge, the air within the door will be caused to circulate upwardly, thus carrying oil the moisture which would otherwise be liable to condense within the door. A. draft through the door may also be created by a diiderence in air pressure between the two rooms or compartments which the door separates. A door will usually be hung so that the upper edge of the door partalres more clearly of the air pressure within one room than that within the' other, whereas, the air pressure beneath the door will usually partake of a mean pressure between the pressures of the two combine to prevent the condensation of moisture within. the door or to facilitate its evaporation in case, under severe conditions, condensation should take place.
I claim:
l. In a hollow metallic fire door, the provision of upper and lower perforate enclosingl members, the perforations in the upper member being` upwardly embossed to form a dam around each of the perforations.
2. In a hollow metallic fire door, the provision of perforated upper and lower enclosn ing members and perforated metallic yplate stiifeners within the door to provide air circulation through the hollow portion of the door.
3. In a hollow metallic lire door, the combination with side plates forming stiles and rails of a perforated upper enclosing member for the upper rail, and means to permit air to pass freely into or out of the bottom of the door.
4. In a hollow metallic lre door, the combination with a top rail of a channel iron forming a top closure for said rail and having its channel portion upward, the side plates of the rail being attached to the side members of the channel, the base of the channel being perforated to permit the cil culation of air into and out of the top door rail. ,y
5. In a hollow metallic door, the combination with a top rail of a channel iron forming a top closure for said rail and having its channel portion upward, the side plates of the rail being attached to the side members of the channel, the base of the channel having perforations therein surrounded by upwardlj,T extending embostures to permit the circulation of air into and out of the top door rail to prevent the passage of water from the channel into the hollow portion of the top door rail.
