BAG HOLDER.
Application filed October 20, 1921.
To all w /1 0 m. it mau concern Be it known that I, Immr IV. Itruo, a citizen of the United States. residing at Philadelphia. county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag Holders, of which the following is a specification. reference being had to the acconr panying drawings.
My invention relates to holders useful in hanging up clothes bags and the like.
The main object of my invention is to provide a simple and efficient means capable of being readily and quickly attached about the mouth of a bag. and. when hung up, of supporting the bag in suspension with the mouth of the same held open for convenience of access in filling.
Other objects and attendant advantages will become readily apparent from the detailed description of a typical embodiment of my invention which follows:
In the drawings. Fig. I. is a perspective view showing the manner in which a clothes bag is supported by a holder conveniently embodying my invention; and.
Fig. II is a perspective view on an enlarged scale of the holder alone.
The holder herein shown typical of my invention is in the form of a loop 1 which in practice is preferably constructed of a single piece either of stout wire or bar metal depending upon the size of the bag and the weight which is to be supported.
In the course of formation of the holder, a perpendicularly turned arched bend is made as at 2 for service as an eve whereby the holder may be hung to a l'ixed headed proiection or peg such as indicated by the numeral 3 in Fig. I of the drawings.
The sides of the offset or eye 2 converge toward the bend in the eye for cooperation with the peg in a manner to be presently noted.
It is to be especially noted that the bending is so ordered that an interval 4 is left between the ends 5. 5 of the wire or metal of the loop preferably at a point directly and that said ends are inclined sligl'itly downward clearly shown in Fig. II. These provisions are made with a view toward facilitating attachment of a bag of the type represented at 6 in Fig. I. As shown, said bag has about its top, a tubular band 7 within which the loop of the holder is accommodated. The band 7 is Specification of Letters Patent.

interrupted as at 8 to afford an opening for the protrusion of the eye 2. In attaching the bag one end 5 of the loop is introduced into the band 7 of the bag through the opening 8 (the downward declivity of the end facilitating this operation) whereupon said band is Worked or progressed until fully engaged by the holder.
In order to avoid undue projection of the holder beyond the wall or surface to which it is hung, the loop 1 is made approximately oval or elongated preferably with straight parallel sides and rounded ends as shown in the illustrations, perfect symmetry and balance being maintained by preordering the location of the interspacc 4 and the eye :2 at the centers of the straight sides. When a holder of this form is hung up. its continuous straight side rests against the wall and in cooperation with the perpendicularly turned eye 2 tends to stabilize the structure by preventing swinging about the projection or peg 3 as a pivot.
As the bag is filled the weight carried tends to bend the curved ends of the loop downwardly, but this tendency to flexure of the loop is offset by the opposing in fluence of the converging sides of the eye 2 with respect to the peg upon which it is supported. so that the curved ends of the loop are. urged toward separation. In this manner the sag at the ends of the loop is prevented and the loop in maintained substantially in a horizontal plane independently of the weight carried.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that a holder constructed according to my invention is extremely strong and durable and capable of being expeditiously and cheaply manufactured.
Ilaving thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A. bag holder con'iprising a single strand of wire bent to form an elongated loop with opposed substantially straight sides and rounded ends, the terminals of the strand terminating in closely spaced relation centrally of one of the straight sides, and an off-set at the other straight side of the holder directly opposite the terminals formed by bending the wire to produce an open sided eyelet, whereby the holder may be enclosed within the interrupted hem around the mouth of a bag by inserting one end in the interrupted portion and working the hem completely around the holder and around the eylet, the latter being adapted to protrude through the interrupted portion of the hem for suspension upon a peg.
2. A bag holder, comprising an elongated loop having straight sides and curved ends constructed of a single strand of wire or the like, and having a space toward the ends of the Wire along one of the straight sides of the loop so that the ends thereof may be inserted in the hem of a tug, and a perpendicular oil's-ct formed in one of the straight sides of the loop at a point opposite the space, said oiiiset lhaving converging sides whereby the hag holder may be sup- Pennsyl- 25
