T 0 all 10700722, it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY l3. SToDnAnD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collars; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates-to certain new and useful improvements in collars and has for its primary object the provision of a collar which will be provided with neclr tie receiving loops which will serve to properly guide and hold the tie in position and at the same time assist in holding the collar in place.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a collar of the above stated character in which neck tie guiding and retaining loops be provided adjacent the forward corners and also in the rear portion of the collar and placed on an incline so as to provide plenty of space for the tie to slide back and forth when being tied or untied.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a collar of the above stated character which will include a novel form and arrangement of side loops which may rangement of guide loops which may be attached to the collar during the process of manufacturing the same or after the collar has been completed, the invention being adapted for application to either stiff or soft collars.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction. combination and arrangement of cooperating elements as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a soft collar with the invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the collar showing the same as being flattened out with i 1 f i Specification of Letters Patent.

the tie therein and the inner half or flap of the collar turned upwardly so as to show clearly the tie guiding and retaining loops.
Referring 'more in detail to the drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, t
The form of the invention disclosed in figures and particularly adapted to the soft styles of collars. It will be seen that a main loop 6 is provided for each side of the collar 7 and is secured upon the outer or turned down half or flap of the collar, the loop being attached to the inner face of the collar, as shown in the drawings. Each main loop 6 has its lower end secured to the lower end of the turned down or outer flap of the collar, adjacent the central or back portion of the collar, as shown at 8 while its upper or forward end is secured to the forward vertical edge of the turned down or outer flap of the collar, a spaced distance from the upper edge thereof, as shown at 9, thereby providing a long forwardly and upwardly inclined loop. Connected with each main loop 6, adjacent the central portion thereof, is the upper end of an auxiliary or lower loop 10, the lower end of which is secured to the lower forward corner of this outer flap or half of the collar, as shown at 11. In replacing the tie in position in this form of collar, the tie is inserted between the main loop 6 and the auxiliarv loop 10 at one end or corner of the collar, then extended between the outer and inner flaps or halves of the collar and brought out between the main loop 6 and the auxiliary loop 10 at the other end or corner of the collar. When drawing together the ends of the tie, the collar will be tightened upon the neck of the wearer and owing to the loops 6 and 10 being located on the outer or turned down half or flap of the collar, this portion of the collar will be retained in proper shape as long as the tie is tightened in the collar and tied in front of the neck of the wearer. No further means will be required to hold the outer flap or half of the soft collar in proper shape and prevent opening of the same.
The tie can be left in the loops and removed and replaced with the collar. It will furthermore be evident that the invention may be applied to either stiff or laundered collars or soft collars, and may be applied thereto whether the collars are separate from the shirt or formed integral therewith.
g 1 iezoae It will be understood that the loop the invention may be placed on any incline de sired to give greater'eas'e for insertion of the tie.
\Vhile the preferred embodiment of the the junction with the other section and attachable at its other end to the free longitudinal edge of the top section, a relatively short tape attached to said tape intermediate its ends, the other end of said short tape being attached to the same end of the top section as the long tape, and the band section having button holes for registration Within the space confined by said tapes.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY l3. STODDARD.
