mmwrm Pz'fac/e fizzrduccz' a a a I 1477' 0/? N5 X an M 6 bearing against the inner surface of chamber 5 and the same box is held in the required position by said wings 6 and plug 10, a thin annular passage beingnleft between said box 6 and the surface ofchamber 5. The material is thus caused to pass between said parts in a thin layer and is thus evenly heated before reaching the die plate and therefore no means are required for heating said die plate. Further, owing to the shape of said chamber and box no recess is produced in which material may lodge more parts and the conductors feeding the current may be located within passages 7 and 7 a proper connecting plug be1ng provided nstead of connecting sleeve 9.
From the bottom of chamber 5 lead passages 12 each communicating with one of the die chambers as hereinafter described.
As hereinbefore described said die chambers ma be made so as to be mounted either horizontally or vertically and the method of connecting the same with block 1 is hereinafter described in connection with both cases.
In the case of chambers intended to be mounted vertically and with their die plates located horizontally, as shown by Figures 1 and 3, each chamber is provided at its restricted head 29 with an elbow duct 28 intended to come in register with a pipe 19 leading to. passage 12 and seating in recesses encircling the mouths of passage 12 and of duct28 and said head is provided with lugs 30 adapted to slide on rods 14 secured to block 1. 011 said rods 14 there is furthermounted-a transverse bar 15 in which is located a screwthreaded nut 16 and a screwthreaded spindle 17 is engaged in said nut 16. The enlarged end 17 of said spindle is seated in a recess provided on said head 29 and is engaged with the same by means of a collar 18 secured to said head 29 and passed through by spindle 17. By operating said spindle 17, say by means of its square end 17", the head 29 and pipe 19 are forced against each other and against the. mouth of passage 12 so as to form a continuous path for the material issuing from passage 12 which is thuscarried into the hollow of chamber 13.
Figures 2, a and 5 show the mounting of chambers 13 intended to be located with their axis horizontal.
In this case the restricted end of each chamber. is seated for the purpose of utilizing the machine in the preferred or required manner.
This may be obtained by the arrangement shown by Figures 6 and 7, comprising a yoke 23 having holes 23 intended to be inserted on bolts 20 and secured thereon by means of nuts 21. Said yoke is provided with perpendicular rods 14: intended to I carry the die chamber 13 and the transverse bar 15 with associate parts as described in connection with Figures 1 and 3. mounting a vertical die chamber 13 in place of a horizontal one 13 a pipe 19 must be located between the mouths of passage 12 and of restricted opening 28 of said chamber as before described.
. Means are provided for securing the die plate 2 1 at the larger mouth of the die chamber, said means consisting, by way of example, of a sleeve 25 adapted to be screwed on the mouth of said chamber and having a flange 25 engaging the edge of said die plate 24, as shown by Figure 3.
Chamber 13 and sleeve 25 may also be provided with means for supporting said sleeve when it is removed from the chamber mouth for the purpose of changing the die plate. Such an arrangement is shown, by way of example, in Figures 2, 4 and 5. In this case the chamber 13 is provided with projections 31 having holes 32 adapted to receive rods 27 on which is slidably mounteda ring 26 engaging a groove of sleeve 25 so as to allow said sleeve 25 to be rotated for screwing and unscrewing the same on and from the mouth of chamber 13' but preventing said sleeve from moving in a transverse direction with regard to the axis of said rods 27 and chamber 13.
Said arrangement for supporting sleeve 25 has been described and illustrated in connection with horizontal die chambers shown in Figures 2 and 4 but it is to be understood that the same may also be used in the case,
of vertical die chambers; in this case this arrangement may also comprise rods adapted to slide through lugs projecting from chamber 13 said ring 26 being secured to said rods and engaging sleeve 25 in a rotatable manner.
The described construction permits an easy and quick disassembling of the machine for vby. unscrewing sleeve 9 the pear box 6 may be removed from chamber and by unscrewing sleeves 25 the die plates 24; may bev removed from their chambers 13 or 13; then the die chambers may be removed by unbe reversed as shown by way of example by figure 9 in which the cylinder 13 is located under the block 1, this latter being reversed with regard to position shown in other figures of the drawing and the die chamber 13 being connected with the upper restricted end of the chamber provided in said block.
In this case the piston or other member producing a pressure within cylinder 3 0perates by rising instead of being lowered within said cylinder as in the case of Figures 1 1, 2,3 and 4.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent 1s:
1. In a press for drawing pasty materials, the combination with a block having a conical main chamber and a plurality of exhaust passages; of a plurality of conical secondary chambers; and sets of rods, each set being adjacent one of said passages and carrying one of said secondary chambers.
2. In a press for drawing pasty materials, the combination with a block having a conical mainchamber and a plurality of exhaust passages; of a plurality of secondary conical chambers; a plurality of sets of rods, each set being adjac nt one of said passages and carrying one of said secondary chambers; and removable sleeves each for connecting one-of the passages of the main chamber with the registering secondary chamber.
3. In a press for drawing pasty materials,
the combination of a block having a conical main chamber and secondary chambers connected with said block; andasperoidal member removably mounted in the central por tion of saidrmain chamber and means for heating said member.
5. In a press for drawing pasty materials.
the combination of a block having a conical main chamber and a central. passage; a plurality of secondary chambers connected with said block; and a member located in the central portion of said main chamber and.
having a depending stem seated in said central assage of said mainchamber, said heating medium in said member.
