INVENTOR $75; ATTO NEY I E. T
HARRY E. PEGK, or wAvminY, mwyoss;
" SHOEHORN. i
Specification of Letters meat.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IIARRY E. PEoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waverly, in the county of Tioga, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Shoehorn; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art'to which it appen tains to make and use the same,
The invention relates to compound tools and has for its object to provide a combined button hook and shoe horn, said shoe horn being formed from a plurality of flexible elongated members pivoted together at one of their ends, and also to a handle member, thereby allowing the free ends of the flexible members to be spread fan wise for insertion in a shoe and forcing the heel of the foot therein.
A further object is to provide a shoe horn comprising a handle member having pivoted to one end thereof a plurality of flexible members, which members may be spread fan wise, thereby allowing the use of the device as a shoe horn, and at the same time allowing the various parts to be folded together into a compact package for storage puroses.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device showing the same in folded condition.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the device showing the same in folded condition.
Figure 8 is a side elevation of the device showing the handle member and the flexible members in extended positions and in position for the free ends of flexible members to be spread fan wise for forming the shoe horn.
Figure 4: is a side elevation of the device showing the flexible members extended and spread fan wise for forming the shoe horn.
Referrin to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates he handle member of the device,
one end of which handle member is provided with a button hook 2, which button hook when the device is extended as shown in Figure 2 may be used. Pivotally connected to the end 3 of the handle member 1 as at l is a plurality of elongated flexible members 5, which members are preferably of the same width and thickness and are adapted to be-moved into registration with each other thereby allowing the handle member 1 to be moved into registration with the flexible member for forming the device into a compact package for storage purposes, such for instance as storage in the pocket where it can be readily obtained for immediate use.
When the device is used as a shoe horn the flexible members 5 are spread fan wise so that they may be received in the heel of the shoe for guiding the heel of the foot into position within the shoe. By forming the member 5 of flexible material it will be seen that when the same is being used as a shoe horn that said members will conform to the curvature of the heel thereby facilitating the downward guiding of the heel into the shoe.
From the above it will be seen that a combination button hook and shoe horn is provided which is simple in construction and so constructed that it may be easily and quickly extended for use as a shoe horn. used as shoe buttoner and when not in use folded into a compact package for storage purposes.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is z 1. A shoe horn comprising ahandle member, a plurality of transversely and longitudinally flexible fingers pivotally connected to one end of the handle member and I Patented July 25, 1922.
Application filed June 24, 1921. Serial No. 480,046.
at one end thereof, a plurality of transversely and longitudinally flexible fingers plvotally connected to the other end of said In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscrlbing wltnesses.
