J. BAKULA. PHONOGRAPH RECORD BRUSH. A'PPLICATION FILED APR-151 1921.
Patented July 11, 1922.
gwuento'a PHONOGRAPE-BECOED BRUSH.
Application filed April 15, 1921.
T 0 all whom it may, concern:
Be it known that I. EDWARD J. BAKI'LA. citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Phonograph-Becord Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to phonograph record brushes and more particularly to an im plement adapted to be placed against the surface of the phonograph record and rapidly rotated so that the surface of the record will be thoroughly brushedand cleaned.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an implement of this character which will rapidly revolve or rotate while in use so that the cleaning material carried by the brush will thoroughly brush the rec- 0rd and remove any foreign particles of dust therefrom.
Another object is to provide a brush of this character which may be readily held in the hand of the user and which will, when placed in contact with the moving" phonograph record, be caused to rapidly rotate to clean the surface of the record.
Other objects of' the invention will appear upon consideration of the following detail description and accompanying drawings, wherein 1 Figure 1 is a plan view of the brush constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse section through the same.
Referring to the drawing; by numerals. the brush disk 1 is of any preferred diameter and has its bottom surface covered with velvet or other similar'fibrous material as indicated at 2. This material is stretched across the surface of the disk 1 and over the edges of the same and is secured in any Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedJuly 11, 1922.
Serial No. 461,527.
l Yhen the device is in use, the knob 4 will be grasped by the fingers of the user and the surface of the fibrous material will be placed in contact with the surface of the phonograph record which will be rota-ting on the phonograph table or plate. This rotary movement of the table will cause the disk 1 to rapidly rotate in the opposite direction from the phonograph record and rotary table and the fibrous material on the surface of the disk will thoroughly cleanse the surface of the record and remove any particles of dirt therefrom. The record may also be cleaned when removed from the ma chine, simply by holding; the record station ary in one hand and by placing the device over the grooves and grasping the knob with the free hand. a slightpressure and circular movement of the hand will cause the disk to slowly revolve and the fibrous material will remain in the grooves, cleaning the surface of the record.
Minor changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
ll hat is claimed is:--
A. phonograph record brush comprising a relatively thin disk of suitable diameter, a covering; of fibrous material attached to the lower surface of the said disk and having its marginal edges secured to the peripheral edge of the said disk. the said material being; stretched taut across the surface of the disk. a knob. a pivot pin carried by the disk and rigidly secured thereto. the said pivot pin being extended through a central opening in the said knob whereby the said disk may freely revolve with the said pivot pin while the knob is held stationary.
In testimony whereof. I have affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD J. BAKULA. Witnesses W. J. BARRETT, Jos. A. SCHMIDT.
