Tnousnns rnnssnn.
To all whom it may concern j Be it known that wejDANmL D. DEWEY and Lno G. SAWDY, both citizens of the United States, and residents of Escanaba, inthe county of Deltaand State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in a Trousers Presser, of
which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to pressing devices for trousers and particularly to a novel board composed of hinged sections adapted to be separated and folded into a small compass.
The presser of our invention is designed primarily to provide a device of simple construction that may be collapsed and readily assembled and which will operate efficiently for the described purpose. It consists essentially of two boards each of which is transversely divided thereby forming sections, and each section being provided with a hinged joint, the joints of two of the sections extending transversely of the board while the joints of the two opposing sections extend longitudinally thereof. Thus the joints in the sections extend at an angle to each other and a rigid structure is assured.
The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein,
Fig. 1 is a view of one side of an assembled pressing device constructed in accordance with our invention;
Fig. 2 is a view of the opposite side thereof;
Fig. 3 is an edge view;
Fig. 4 is a perspective mantled board, and,
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the spring clamps.
The device consists essentially of two boards adapted to resiliently clamp the two legs of a pair of trousers therebetween. The boards are generally designated A and B. Each of these boards is transversely divided and provided with hinges 10, 11, respectively, the pivots of the hinges being readily view of the disremovable and preferably consisting of stiff wires 12, 13, adapted to be inserted from the side through the eyes of the hinges. The
sections of the board A are likewise transversely divided thereby forming portions 14, 15, 16, 17. The parts of the hinges 18 are not separable as in the case of the hinges 10, 11, there being no occasion for this as Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 28,1921, Serial No. 511,077.
Patented June 27, 1922'.
the pieces of the sections may be folded back to back and occupy the minimum of space.
The sections of the board B are longitudinally dividedforming pieces 19, 20,21, 22, these pieces being united by hinges 23,'th e parts of which are likewiseinseparable, the pieces of the two sections being folded back to back and substantially conforming in size to the folded sections of the board A.
Spring clips or fasteners 24, as best shown in Fig. 5, are employed for clamping the boards A, B, overthe trouser legs. A hook 25, having sliding engagement with a keeper 26, provides means for hanging the trousers as desired. When not in use the hook may be slid longitudinally into the plane of the board. The view in Fig. 4 is that of the dismantled boards showing the small space occupied bythe parts when in that condition.
In operation and with the device assembled as shown, the two legs of a pair of trousers are carefully placed on one board and the other board located in proper p0sition. The spring clamps are then suitably positioned in order to equalize the pressure at various points around the board and the parts allowed to remain in the described position for a suitable length of time, usually over night. The clamping action of the spring clips is uniform and the pressing action will be found to be thorough. When the device is not in use or in case it is employed by men who travel, it may be quickly dismantled and folded into the compass indicated in Fig. 4. A fabric container may be provided and the presser' carried either in that manner or in a suitcase or bag. It will be constructed of light weight material, preferably laminated sections of board, so disposed that the grain of adjacent sec tions extend at right angles.
Obviously the construction is capable of much modification and we do not wish to be limited except as indicated in the appended claims.
We claim: I
1. In a pressing device, the combination of a pair of pressing boards, means for clamping the same together, each of said boards being transversely divided at a point substantially midway between its ends, hinges joining the divided sections of each board, the sections of one board being additionally transversely divided and hinged,-
and the sections of the other board being longitudinally divided and hinged.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a pair of boards, means for clamping trouser legs therebetween, each of the boards being transversely divided and hinged at a point between its ends, means permitting ready separation of the hinged sections, each of the hinged sections of each board being subdivided and hinged, the division lines of two of the sections being transverse and the division line of the other two sections being longitudinal of the boards, the sections being so disposed that the transverse and longitudinal division lines are in opposed sections.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination of a pair of boards, spring clips for clamping trouser legs therebetween, each of the boards being transversely divided and hinged at a point bet-ween its ends, means permitting ready separation of the hinged sections, each of the hinged sections of each board being additionally divided and hinged, whereby each board may be separated into two sections and the parts of each section be folded back to back.
Signed at Escanaba, Mich, this 20th 00- tober, 1921.
