Be it known that I, JOSEPH PELNA'R, Sr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Deerfield, in the county of Kearny and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bolster Stakes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bolster stakes for wagons and has for an object the provision of a stake which is strong and. durable in construction, easily manufactured and readily repaired.
Another object is thepro-vision of a bolster stake which is formed from a single strip of metal and bent to provide contacting parallel members having' ring receiving eyes and attaching ears, the construction being such that the stake may be bent without breaking, but will resist considerable strain.
Vith the above and other lobjects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of one end ofabolster with the improved stake applied.
Figure 2 is a detailed perspective view of the stake removed from the bolster.
Referring specifically to the drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a bolster ofthe usual or any preferred construction, while the improved stake is indicated at 11.
The stake is formed of a single strip of metal and bent centrally to provide parallelcontacting members 12 and 13. The portion of the stake which connects the members 12 and 13 is bent to provide an eye 14, while the member 12 is bent intermediate its length to provide an eye 15. Theeyes 14 and 15 receive stake rings 16 as isusual in devices of this character. The opposite ends of the metal strip are bent substantially at right Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 27 Application med August 21, 1920. serial No. 405,043. i
angles to provide outwardly extendingattaching ears 17 which are located at the end of the stake opposite the eye 14. Apertures 18 are provided in the ears 17 for the passage of fastening devices for securing the stake to the bolster. i
The invention provides an exceedingly strong and durable stake which is easily attached to a bolster and while the members 12 and 13- are not secured together by weldstrengthen the other so as to resist bending. Should such bending occur however, the stake may be easily straightened without the aid of a mechanic.
ing or any other means, one member acts to A y The invention is susceptiblevof various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described claimedk is 1. A bolster stake formed from a single strip of metal bent centrally upon itself to the invention l' what is provide parallel contacting members, they connected portion of said members being formed into an eye, a second eye located intermediate the ends of the stake and formed by bending the said member outwardly JOSEPH PELNAR, sR. i
