OF PHILADELPHIA, PENN SYLVANIA; SAID RICHARDSON ASSIGNOB TO SAID WILLIAMSON Y 1 IILIUNCH KIT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EDWA D H. l/VILLIAM- son and TOLBERT N. RICHARDSON, citizens of the United States, and residents of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lunch Kits, of which the following is a speclfication.
Our invention concerns lunch boxes or kits in which the top or cover member is provided with means for holding a thermos bottle or the like within the top, and one object of our invention is to provide an efli cient form of holder which is combined with the top in such manner as to present a good appearance and not to alter or mar the general appearance of the box or kit. Other objects of the invention will be clear from the following description:
The invention is shown In the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a plan View of the the cover or top thrown back.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional view.
Figure 3 is a view of a detail.
In these drawings, 1 indicates the main body of the box and 2'the cover or top secbox with tion which is hinged to the body at 3. This top section is of considerable height and is adapted to receive Within it a thermos bottle or the like, this bottle being supported entirely above the plane of the main bodyportion so as to leave this entirely available for receiving its contents, such as materials making up the lunch. In order to hold the thermos bottle, the outline of which is indicated at 4:, we provide a holder consisting of a wire member having the two sides 5, each of which is turned substantially at right angles at its end to form a journal 6. These journals find bearings in the wall of the top of coverv section by pressing 1n the wall at the points 7. It will be noted that the two sides 5 converge from the points where they are hinged or journalled to the side of the top section, and they are connected by a cross piece 8, this cross piece being a continuation'of the sides 5. The
' cross piece is adapted to take under a locking projection 9 which is conveniently formed by pressing in the wall of the side of the to section. The cross piece 8 is of angular orm, its central portion 9 lying in rear of its portions 10 where'the cross piece merges into the sides 5 and this construction facilitates the engagement of the cross 'is' a little shorter than the nals of the Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jun 20 1922 Application filed November 9., 1920. Serial no. 422,816. i
piece with the locking ,projection on the side of the cover; fThe locking projection length or" the cross piece and the inclines cross piece, when pressure is exerted to effect the locking action, will ride over the curved ends of the locking projection and thus get in position below the same so as to retain the holder in place.- 1 i The bearings formed by indenting the wall of the top section. to receive the jourholder provides a simple and effective construction and one .which will enable the holder to be placed in position readily, and it will be at 11 of the;
indented bearing portions of the wall of' the top section lie back of the members 12v which'form portions of the clasps which are employed for holding the free edge of the top section in connection with the main body. In other words, thetop or cover section is provided with clasps and these keepers overlie and hide the bearings in which the holding member is journalled, so that the appearance of the cover section is not interfered with at these points. I
keepers 12v of thes Y The bearings for the holder are located i at widely separated points, and the sides 5 of the holder are convergent from these points towards the opposite side of the top or cover section, and by this construction widely separate bearings or engaging points are provided for contact withthe thermos bottle or other article which is to be so that this will be held firmly in position.
carried It will be understood that the above description and the drawing accompanying the. same are to be regarded as illustrative of our invention and not asrestricting it to the precise construction disclosed, the
scope of the invention being defined by the appended claims. We do not limit ourselves to the location of the bearings so widely separate as illustrated norto the form or location of the clasp means employed for holding the top or cover section I closed.
We claim as our invention 1. A lunch box comprising a body and a top hinged thereto, clasps for securing the top to the body, members of said clasps being mounted on the top, and a ho1der for a thermos bottle or the like, comprising a member hingedto the free or unhinged side of the top back'of the clasp membersthere I on and means on the hinged side of the top to engage the free end of the holder to retain the same in place substantially as described. 7
2. In combination with a lunch box having a bodymember and a cover hinged thereto, a holder for a thermos bottle or the like, comprising a Wire member having two. sides with pintles journaled to one side wall of the cover and connected by a cross piece of angular fOIIIItWitll its center portion receding and providing inclines 11 and a locking PIOJBCUOH to engage the saldcross bar carried by the slde Wall of the cover,
said locking projection being shorter than tures.
