KEY HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J 119 20, 1922 Application filed October 29, 1921. Serial No. 511,263.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GHALMER L. OBER- LANDER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Buoyrus, in the county of Crawford and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a key holder particularly adapted for hotel room keys or the like. i
The object of the invention is to provide a key holder to which the room key of a hotel or the like may be attached for identifying the room to which the key belongs, and also for distributing soap or the like to the different rooms of the hotel.
It is also an object of the invention that the key holder be adapted to serve to remind the guest that it is in his possession and in this way avoid the possibility of a guest carrying the key away when leaving the hotel.
It is a further object of the invention that the key holder be extremely simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects will hereinafter appear.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a partial elevation of a door and showing a key inserted in the keyhole thereof, which has attached thereto a keyholder plate of the present invention,
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the keyholder,
Figure 3 is a view in elevation and looking at one edge of the key-holder.
Referring to the drawings more particularly, 10 indicates generally a plate which preferably tapers toward its one end as shown, while its other end is formed with a projection 11, the edges 12 of which diverge with respect to one another, and said projection provided with a central opening 13 adapted for facilitating the securing of a key thereto. The plate 10 is also provided with a receptacle generally indicated by the reference numeral 14, said receptacle being preferably rectangular in shape and of the depth shown. Immediately below the receptacle there is secured to the plate a spring finger 15, said spring finger being preferably secured by the means of a rivet 16, and also having its upper end portion curved upwardly as at 17 and then turned upon itself as at 18. The purpose of the spring fingers 15 is to hold a cake of soap or the like as indicated at 19 within the receptacle 14.
Referring to Figure 1 it will be seen that the plate .10 is connected to a key 20,said. key having the ring portion of its handle extending through the opening 13' of the plate projection 11. the key the key-hole of the door generally indicated bythe reference numeral 21. It may be here stated that the purpose of providing the projection 12 is two-fold, first that of providing a suitable means to which a key may be secured, and second to provide Also in this figure is shown as being extended into shoulders which occur on each side of the projection 11 whereby the plate may be supported upon a rack and the key attached thereto depending therefrom.
It is also to be pointed out that the surface of the plate 10 about the receptacle 14 should be of sufficient area to permit the number of the room and the name of the hotel to be printed thereon, and also adver-' tising matter if so desired. Within the receptacle 14 a cake'of soap may be positioned as illustrated in the drawings and this means utilized for distributing soap to the different rooms, that is, each guest would be given a key attached to a holder and holder bearing the cake of soap within its receptacle 14. Also if desired the pocket 14 may be utilized for distributing other having an ofi'set formed centrally therein adapted to provide a receptacle in which which a key may be attached, said plate an article may be placed, and a spring finhaving an offset formed centrally therein ger having its one end secured to the plate adapted to provide a receptacle in which 10 and its free end extending over the ofl'set an article may be placed. and means Where- 5 and adapted to hold the article within the by an article in said receptacle may he held receptacle. from displacement.
2. A key holder comprising a plate to CHALMER L. OBERLANDER.
