' Application filed April 7,
To all whom it. may concern:
Be it known that I, MABEL NORTON MILLS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New. York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Undergarments, of which the following is a specification.
if This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in ladies undergarments.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide 'a single garment that looks and hangs like a petticoat and yet furnishes the protection of drawers or bloomers. Another object is to prevent the bunching of material and yet permit of freedom of movement. Still another object is the saving of material since the single garment takes the place of both a petticoat and drawers. 1
Other objects will appear more fully hereinafter. I V I Referring to the accompanying drawings:
Figure I, is a front view of a ladys undergarment embodying the principles of my invention.
-Figure II, is a front view showing the petticoat portion draw-n back to disclose the will then hang and look like a petticoat.
The gored portion 3 is connected at .the center and bottom thereof by a narrow strip of material .4 to the back portion of the undergarment 1. Unlike a true petticoat the undergannent 1 is open, from a point well upon the hips at each side 5. and 6 thereof down to the center strip 4 at the bottom. The front and back portions of un- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 20, 1922.
1921. Serial No. 459,327.
dergarment 1 around openings 5 and 6 are fringed with lace edging 7 and 8.
Within the petticoat portion of undergarment 1, adjacent the openings 5 and 6 drawer legs 9 and 10 are fastened to the undergarment at 11 and 12 in any suitable manner. Both drawer legs 9 and 10, at the sides thereof, are slit at 13 and 14 throughout their length and have suitable fastening devices 15, 16 such as snap fasteners to close the slots 13 and 14.
The modified form of undergarment is the same in all respects except that I have provided bloomer legs 9, 10 instead ofdrawer legs 9 and 10. The bloomer legs 9', 10 are also slit at 13, 14' throughouttheir length and have suitable fastening devices 15, 16 to close the slits 13, 14'.
Thus it will be seen that I have invented a ladys undergarment which has the'dainty appearance of a petticoat while at the same time serving as a pair of drawers; and one which conforms to the figure without the bulkiness of two garments with the consequent saving of material.
- What I claim is:
1. In a ladys undergarment, a petticoat and drawers in combination, comprising a petticoat open at the sides, a gore in the center of the front of said petticoat, a nar row strip of material connecting the gored portion at the bottom to the back of the petticoat, and drawer legs slit throughout theirlengths at the sides thereof and means for closing the slits.
2. A ladys undergarment comprising a petticoat portion and a drawer portion, said petticoat portion being slit at the sides thereof, a gore in the center of the front of said petticoat portion, a narrow strip of material j oining the bottom of the gored portion with the bottom of the back of the petticoat portion, said drawer portion having drawer legs separable at their sides within the petticoat portion and attached thereto.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 1st day of April, A. D. 1921.
