L uzsov, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of lilassachuse have invented certain new and useful Improvements in iVrenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ratchet wrenches, and has for its object to provide an improved form of such a wrench which is of simple and practical construction that may be manufactured at the minimum expense and produced rapidly by automatic machinery.
rihe nature and advantages of this invention will be better understood when the following detail description is taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

Figure 7 is the same as Figure 5 with the exception that the side plates instead of being held by rivets are retained by the spreading edges of the shouldered portions of the hub, extending over those of the side plates for the purpose of retaining the hub in operative position in the head.
With reference to the drawings, 10 designates the handle portion of my improved wrench and 11 the head portion thereof all being` cut from a single piece of sheet stock. This head portion is preferably made in circular form and is provided with Specification of Letters Patent.

It will be seen by this construction that the handle and the head and the toothed, central opening in the head are so shaped as to be formed by a punching or cutting process.
The hub member 15 is preferably in the form of a circular disk having laterallyextending shoulders 1G formed on its opposite side .faces` the whole being adapted to be constructed by automatic machinery such as the so-called screw-machine or the like, the center hole 17 which is usually formed square is preferably breached out to the desired size for the reception of the Shanks of the socket portions of the wrench (not shown),
finto the peripheral surface of this head member I preferably drill a hole 1S whose axis is substantially parallel with one of the side walls of the center hole 17, see Figure 1, and I may provide one or more pawl members 19 which are preferably provided with a cylindrically-shaped body portion liattened at 2O to engage the side face of each of the teeth 13 as the hub rotates. The inner end 21 of this cylindrical pawl is preferably turned -down to receive the coils of the operating spring 22, which spring serves to force the pawl upwardly causing' its outer end 23 to abut against one edge of the teeth 13.
On opposite sides of the head portion of this wrench l secure the thin side plates 2li for the purpose of holding the hub member in operative position in the head.
In some cases I secure these plates by means of rivets 25, while in other cases l bevel the inner edges 26 of these plates as shown in Figure 7, and then turn the outer edges 27 of the shoulders 16 upwardly over these beveled edges 26, thereby binding these plates to the hub member to turn therewith thus doing away with the rivets above referred to.
My improved wrench has many structural advantages over other wrenches of this character among others being' first, that the handle and head portion are of the same thickness and may be readily cut or blanked from sheet stock all in a single punching operation thus reducing the cost of construeting this member to the minimum; seeond, the hub member is constructed in e circuler disk form having` laterally-enteuding', integral shouldered portions thus ISrivinna the maximum Width to the dish tor the reception ot the shank portion olf the socket wrenches, which are operated in the usrud wey by the rotation of this hub member; third this hub member is retained in position by thin plete/s or collars positioned on either side oll the heed portion et the Wrench and :ire either secured to the heed portion ot the wreneh itsel-'l illus ted in Figures l and 5, or these plutes may be secured to the shoulder portions oit the hub in the manner illustrated in Figure 7, either ot which arrangements reduces the oost ol?
