FUEL CABINET. APPLICATION FILED ums, 1919 Patented J une EL3, 1922.

FUEL CABINET.
Application filed December 8, 1919.
To all 'whom it may concern.'
Be it known that l, GEORGE DAwsON Hoon, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of 92 Fairview Ave.. in the city of Toronto, county of York, Province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Fuel Cabinets, of which the following is a specication.
The invention relates to improvements in fuel cabinets, as described in the present specification and show-n in the accompanying drawing that forms a part of the same.
rlhe invention consists essentially of the novel features of construction whereby a cabinet divided into compartments for various purposes is provided with a coal receptacle accessible from the top of said cabi net and having a comparatively small delivery mouth adapted to automatically feed a predetermined quantity of coal to a delivery chamber located therebelow.
The objects of the invention are to provide a coal receptacle in which the coal will be gradually fed to the delivery chamber without undue agitation and thus reduce to a minimum the dust rising therefrom, to provide a fuel cabinet adapted for the purpose of containing household articles of various kinds and generally to provide a fuel cabinet which will be neat of appearance, inexpensive to construct, durable and eflicient.
ln the drawing Figure l is a perspective view of the cabinet open.
Figure 2 is a plan view with the top open.
Figure 3 is a vertical section through the cabinet.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the various gures.
Referring to the drawing l is the casing which is preferably of rectangular form and is provided with an opening 2 in the top thereof adapted to be closed by a lid 3, and an opening 4.- in the front thereof adapted to be closed by a door 5. said front opening being located slightly below the longitudinal centre of the cabinet and terminating at its lower end considerably short of the bottom of the cabinet. The upper portion of the cabinet is adapted to serve as a container for coal or other fuel and is provided with a substantially funnel shaped bottom comprising a rearwardly and downwardly eX- tending front wall 6 terminating short of Specification of Letters Patent.

the rear wall of the cabinet, and inwardly converging side walls l and 8 respectively meeting -opposite side edges of said front wall 6 and forming a comparatively small delivery mouth 9.
The front wall 6 of the fuel container or chute is shown in the drawing as being supported from the lower end of an inset or lining 10 of wood secured to the front wall of the cabinet but it must of course be understood that said wall 6 as well as the side walls 'l' and 8 may be secured-in any desired manner to the cabinet frame.
l1 is the chamber located beneath the fuel container and adapted to receive the fuel from the chute for delivery, said chamber ll being composed of a flooring 12 extending from front to rear of the cabinet on ak level with the lower edge of the front` opening l and of substantially the same width as the opening in the lower end of said chute, and side walls 13 and 14 vertically arranged between said flooring 12 and the walls of the chute of the fuel container.
It will thus be seen that a continuous passage for the fuel entirely separated from the remaining compartments is provided between the top of the cabinet and the front opening from which it is adapted to be taken thus making it impossible for the dust to reach the interior of said other compartments. The space between the door of the cabinet and the floor 12 of the chamber 11 is adapted for use for storing small articles while the space between side walls of the cabinet and the side walls 13 and 14 respectively may be utilized for storing brushes, brooms and like articles.
ln Jhe use of this invention the fuel is deposited through the top of the cabinet and the delivery mouth is much smaller than the opening in the top only a small quantity tions and securely affixed to and supported from the Walls of the cabinet in a manner to form an aii' tight joint7 the delivery end O'f said Chute termina-ting` at rear of central compartment and thereby forming` a fuel chamber in Said compartment, and having compartments adjoining Suid fuel Chamber and having air tight joints .between said compartments and fuel chamber.
Signed at the City of Toronto, this 12th 10 clay of November, 1919.
