Description

I J. P. DE BROECK. CURTAIN WINDOW. APPLICATION FILED mu. 3, 1921.
1,418,539. PatentedJune fi 1922.
WITNESS 1 INVENTO /4'( ATTORNEYS UNITE sa' CURTAIN WINDOW.
Application filed. January 3, 1921. Serial No. 434,463.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J osnen P. on Bnoncn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Santa Barbara, county of Santa Barbara, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Curtain Window, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to frames for holding glass windows in flexible material.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved means with which, a glass window may be readily placed in flexible material, such as an automobile curtain, and held securely therein. Another object is the provision of such a device which permits speedy replacement of the broken glass.
The invention possesses other objects and features of advantage, some of which. with the foregoing, will be set forth in the following description of the preferred form of my invention which is illustrated in the drawings accompanying and forming part of the specification. It is understood that I do not limit myself to the showing made by the said drawings and description, as I may adopt variations of the preferred form within the scope of my invention as set forth in the claims. v Referring to the, drawings:
Fig. l is an elevation of my window frame as installed in a section of curtain. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing theframe open and partly detached. Fig. .3 is a sectional view, the plane of section being in dicated by the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 shows a modified structure.
My new window comprises'a frame which may be circular or any desired contour and formed preferably of two sections 2 and 3 hinged together at one side and provided with a snap catch or look at the other side. The snap lock comprises a spring arm 4: on
'one of the frame parts, and carries a button 6 adapted to snap into the aperture 7 on the other frame part. The frame parts are thus securely held together but are readily opened when necessary.
The frame is of substantially U-section as indicated in Fig.v the outer flange being curved or arched to enclose the glass sheet 8, as shown, and the inner flange befor inserting a new glass.
ing flat to adapt it to be engaged under an JOSEPH 1?. mt BROEGK, OF SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA.
. Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 6,1922. I
annular flange strip 9 secured to the edge of the curtain or other material ll by" stitches 12. The strip 9 may be of leather or any suitable material stitched or ce mented along theedge to the curtain ma terial and lying contiguous there-With: This strip provides a slightly deformable pad on V which the glass rests without rattle.
tabs 18 crimped permanently upon the material as shown in Fig. 4. In thiscase I I y make this strip of th1n metal-having spaced rely on the resiliency of the frame flanges t-o tightly grip the glass. I
After attaching theannular flange'strip 9. the window is installed bylaying the glass 8, cutto proper size, upon the strip,
and applying one side 2 of the frame, the
flatflange of the frame entering between the material and the annular strip substantially to theline of fastening, and the arched flange overlying the glass. The otherhalf of the frame is then closed on the first half in the same manner, thus securely holding the glass, with a neat strong and readily removable frame. 6 permits the frame partsto be separated if necessary, when they may be withdrawn I claim: 1. A. window for, flexible material com- Pressure on the button.
prising a flat strip aflixed to the material 1 about the window aperturetherein and contiguous therewith, a sheet of glass, a'frame having hinged sections each formed with anouter flange enclosing theglass and an inner. flange lying between the materlal and sald strip, and means for fastening the hinged frame sections together.
2. A window for flexible material comprising a flat strip afiixed tojthe material about the window aperture therein and con-v tiguous therewith, a sheet of glass, a frame comprising pivoted sections and formed with an outer flange enclosing the glass and an inner flange lying between the material and said. strip, and a releasable spring latch I for locking the frame sections together- 'In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my'hand.
