T all whom it may cor were;
Be it known that I, V IGTOR L. hnnnnnnr,
- a citizen of the United "States, and a resident of Urbana, county of Ghampaign, and State of Illinois, have invented a certain newfand useful Shipping Case; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts.
This invention relates to a laundry case for sending laundry back and forth by parcel post or other means, and to a similar type of container or receptacle for receiving and forwarding goods by parcel post, express or similar means of transportation.
The main object of the invention is to provide a casing or receptacle of this nature which will be most durable and convenient for the users, and to this purpose one feature of the invention consists in providing a reversible flap on the cover for indicating the address of the receiver when in one position and the return address of the sender when in the other position, whereby the same address space may continue to be used without changing or m'utilating the same so long as the container passes between the same parties.
Another feature of the inventionconsists of'the durable and convenient construction of the container which willcause it to be light and durable on one hand, convenient to the user and thoroughly protect the contents on the other hand.
The full nature of this invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the container in semi-closed position. Fig. 2 is a plan view looking down on a portion thereof showing the address flap. Fig. 3 is a lay out of the blank before being formed into a box container. Fig. 4 is the same as F 2 showing a modified form of the address flap.
In the drawings there is shown a shipping case formed from a blank in which 10 is the bottom, 11 the sides, 12 the hinged top, 13 the overlapping top flange, and 14L the inwardly extending side flange. The ends are formed by folding in the end flaps Application fiie'ase it emb'erzo,i921. Serial no. 501,951.
Specification of Letters latent.
15 until the sides 11 are vertical and the ends of said end flaps abut, turning the end piece 16 inwardly soas to, extend vertically on the inside of each end flap and bending the end flange pieces 17 inwardly and horizontally" so as to-{provideian end retainer for the contents of the shipping case, and add strength thereto. v Afterv the shipping'case is formed up in box-shape from the blank shown in Fig.3, and the parts thereof secured in position b' suitable means, such as glue, se'aling'paper or staples, it is covered with a canvas cover-- mg over the entire outer surface, which covering is provided with end flaps 18 and 19 which are adapted to have their ends meet over the center of the box within the same and be secured by the buttons 20, or
similar means, for maintaining the contents in position within the box and protecting the same. The case or container is secured in closed position by means of the fabricstraps 21 which pass about it adjacent each end and which may be connected by the handle strap 22 which serves as ahandleh The top covering23, which is made "of canvas or a like material,- is provided'with a flap 2% stitched along one side thereof to said covering so that it may be turned to either the position shown in full lines in Figs. 2 and 4Lfor in the position shown'by dotted lines therein. Said flap is provided with button holes 25 for causing the sameto be secured in either position by'the buttons 26. There "is provided a space and label upon each side of said flap for stamps and spaces positioned on each side of the i flap hinge portion 27 and adyacent thereto for indicating thedestination of the container. Said spaces indicate the address of the parties between whom the package is to be shipped back and forth. When the package is sent to one of the parties, the flap will be turned and buttoned inposition to disclose the proper sending address and cover up the other address. When the package is returned to the original sender the flap will be turned in the opposite direction and buttoned down so as to disclose the other address and cover up the first address. By means of this arrangement the addresses need not be changed, and as the container is sent back and forth theflap is simply turned, thereby eliminating con-.
stamps and when one space thereon has been. covered with stamps, a paper can be applied thereover so as to renew the space therefor.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 4, instead of the flap being secured by buttons as shown in Fig. 2, the outer edge of said flap is provided with a hem 28 through which the strap 21 may be passed for securing the flap in the desired position.
The invention claimed is:
1. A shipping case comprising a box portion, a fabric covering for said box portion, an address flap having one edge hingedly secured to said cover, and means for securing said flap in position on either side of the hinged edge for the purpose of c0nceal ing the address of the sender and revealing the destination of the receiver.
2. A shipping case comprising a box for containing articles to be shipped, an address indicating label for each party between whom the case is shipped, reversible means for covering one of said addresses and exposing the other when in one position and concealing the latter and exposing the former when in the opposite position, and means for securing said reversible means in fixed position upon said case for revealing the destination thereof.
3. A shipping case comprising a box for containing articles to be shipped, an ad- :dress indicating label for each party between whom the case is shipped, a reversible flap hinged to said case in position to conceal one of said addresses and reveal the other when in one position, and reveal the former and conceal the latter when in the opposite position, and means for securing said flap in fixed position for indicating the destination of said case.
4. A shipping case comprising a box for containing articles to be shipped, a fabric said cover for covering one of said addresses and exposing the other when in one position and concealing the latter and exposing the former when in the opposite position, and means on said cover for securing said reversible means. in fixed position thereon.
5. A shipping case comprising a box portion, a fabric covering for Sald box portion, an address flap having one edge hingedly secured to said covering, address labels for each of the parties between whom the container passes mounted on said-covering on each side of the hinged j'portion of the flap and, adjacent thereto, and buttons in position on said covering by which said flap may be secured in the desired position for concealing the address of the sender and revealing the address of the receiver.
6. A shipping case comprising a box portion, a fabric covering for said box portion, an overlapping edge on top of said box arranged to extend downwardly over the side thereof, a flanged portion extending inwardly from the top of said box over the side portion, end flaps formed from said covering arranged to extend inwardly over each end of said box and be secured to each other for protecting the contents and maintaining them within the case, said end flaps being formed of fabric covering and secured together at their ends by means of buttons or the like, flap stitchedalong one edge to said covering on the top of the box so arranged that when secured in one position the address of the sender will be concealed and that of the receiver revealed, substantially as described.
In. witness whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature.
VICTOR L. KRANNERT.
