Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 23; 1 222.
Application filed November 1,1921. Serial no., 5 12,027
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that ll, VINCENT J. MONAMARA,
a citizen of the United States, resiolin at' New York, in the county of New ork,
' State of New York, have invented a new and useful Fountain Shaving Brush; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it" appertains to make and use the same.
device of this character comprising a chambered handle for the reception of a collapsif ble tubet of shaving soap, a plunger in said handle for collapsing saidtube and to provide the handle member with a removable bristle carrying member having a soap passage therein, into which soap is forced .-from the collapsible tube. 1
A further object is toprovide the removable brush carrying member with a tube forming the soap: passage into the brush, said tube being provided with a pliable tip, which prevents the tube fromcoming into engagement'with the face during a latherc soa tube therein.
in operation.
Vith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts I as hereinafter setforth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment ofthe invention may be made within the'scope of what is claimed without departingfrom the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings; g v
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the brush.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan-view of the chambered handlefshowing the collapsible therein and a lower section 4, which is threaded at 6 on the lower end' of the section The invention relates to fountain shaving brushes, and has for its object to provide a 2 of the handle; Disposed within thechamber 3 of the handle section 2 is aplunger 5 which plunger is adapted to be forced inwardly for collapsing the collapsible soap carrying tube 7 which may be of any conventional form. If so'desired the upper end of the-plunger 5 may be provided with a member 8, by means of which member the brush when not in use may be suspended from a suitable support for drying and draining purposes; Interposedbetween the adjacent ends of the handle sections 2'and 4 is a washer 9 preferably formed from resilient material, which washer prevents entrance of water to the chamber 3 during a shaving operation.
The lower end of the collapsible tube 7 is v provided with a flanged discharge neck 10 which is threaded at 11 into the disc 12. Thedisc 12 is in turn threaded at 13 on the upper enl. of a discharge tube 14, which tube extends through the butt end '15 of the brush 1 1 and .is imbedded in said butt end, and held therein by the close engagement of the butt ends of the bristles, which is encased in the annular sleeve16. Annular sleeve 16 is disposed within an annular recess 17 in the removable lower end section 4 of the'handle member and rests upon the flange 18. r The disc'1'2 is disposed within the upper end of the chamber-17 and rests upon an annular shoulder 19, and is held against downward displacement bysaid shoulder "19 and against upward displacement by the engagement of the lower face 20 of thebrush handle section 2 with the, upper face ofthe disc 12. Thelower end of the discharge tube 14 i extends'below the lower end of the removable section 4 and is provided with a flexible and pliable nipple 21, through which the soap from the collapsible tube 7 is discharged. The nipple 21 forms'means for preventing injury 'to the face of the user of thevb'rush during a lathering operation.
After the contents of he tube 7 have been consuined, a new tube 7 is placed in the chamber 3 by simplyre'moving the handle. section 4 and unscrewing the old collapsed tube 7 from the disc 12 and replacing the same with a new tube, after which the handle section 4 is again screwed on the lower end of the handle'section 2.
-From the above-it will be seen that a fountain shaving brush is provided wherein conventional forms of collapsible soap tubes may be placed within the brush and the con tents thereof utilized as desired. It Will also be seen that a fountain shaving brush is providedWhich is simple in construction, sanitary and one wherein the parts have been reduced to a minimum.
The invention having been set forth What is claimed as new and useful is 1. A shaving brush complising a handle member, said handle member being provided 'With'a detachable chambered end, a shoulder carried at the lower end of the detachable chambered end, a bristle carrying member disposed on the shoulder of the detachable chambered end of the handle and disposed within the chamber thereof, a disc disposed in the upper end of the chamber of the detachable chambered end of the handle, a
v soap conducting tube extending downwardly from said disc and terminating in the bristles of the brush, a resilient member carried by said tube, a plunger slidably mounted in a chamber of the handle member, and means whereby a collapsible soap tube may be supported on the disc with its discharge open- .ing in registration with the tube carried by the disc and in registration with the plunger.
2. A shaving brush comprising a handle member having a chamber therein, a re movable bristle carrying end carried by said handle, a disc interposed between the bristle. carrying end' and the handle member, a discharge tube extending downwardly from the disc into the bristles of the brush carried by the removable brush carrying end, a resilient member carried by the end of the dis signed my presence of
