To @ZZ/whom t may concern.'
lie 1t known that I, lli/lnx F. linnnn, a citizen ot the United States, residing at Miami,
in the county of Dade and State of Florida, have invented certain new and nseinl liniprovements in lilgg Containers, oi which the following is a specilication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to egg containers, and has for its object to providea container or pocket for each egg, so constructed that any quantity of the containers may be packed in a loon` or shipping crate without placing packing or likev cushioning `means between the containers, or separating the containers j in any manner. i
provide a container of this character including a resilient pocket or jaw members, so arranged that when the egg is engaged with the bottom ol:l the pocket, the upper portions ot the pocket are Vurged into engagement with the egg.
W ith these and other objects fin View, the Ainvention consists in the iu'iproved construis tion and arrangement of parts to be iiereinaflfter incre particnlarly described, fully claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which lligurc l is a longitudinal sectional View o'lf an egg container, constructed in accordance with an embodiment ot the invention,
Figure 2 is a top plan view or the pocket or container,
Figure 3 is a plan view of the blank trom which the pocket is lorined,
Figure 4; is a fragmentary sectional view, showing the means for connecting the ends of the collar, and
llig'ure 5 is a view showing the manner of packing the containers in a shipping crate.
Referring to the drawings, 7 designates a container substantially in the form of a resilient pocket, said pocket consisting ol' a strip 8, having a plurality oit jaws 9 projecting :trom one of its longitudinal edges,

said jaws being spaced from each other, and are of' a length to permit the ends thereof to be disposed centrally ot the strip when the stripis formed into a support.
The end portions l() and ci' the strip are intended to be connected to each other by means oi a staple l2, as shown in Viligure 4l, so as to :torni a collar or support :tor the pocket. .Each oit the jaws 9 extended npwardly troni the longitudii'ia.L or upper edge oi" the collar or support as at i3, and then extended dowmvardly as at ld., and then inwardly as at 15, toward the center et the collar. llt will be noted that each or the jaws inclines inwardly toward the center or the pocket, so that a resilient loop '15 iis `termed substantially at the junction ol the portions l?) and lill of the jaws. tly this arrangement, the ends ot the jaws ineet at the center or the pocket, the end ot one jaw being adapted to engage the confronting end ot' the opposite jaw. lhe ends ot one pair oit jaws are disposed upon the ends ot the ren'iaining pair of jaws, and said ends are secured to each other by ineens oi staples L resilient pocket is thereby 'foi-ined, which contornis to the shape o'if the and is capable et preventing damage to the egg, regardless ot the misuse or handliro,l of the shijjiping crate it.. lili/'hen the erted in the j iocltet, the junctions oit the po.. tions lll and lll. of the jawsare moved toward the upon contact oit the endet the egg with the tanlnected ei'ids oil the jaws, so that a clamping action taires place,`and while this clamping action prevents'i ar-cid ital disengagement olf the cg from the pocket, it does not Viiiterlfere with the yieldable incren'ient oi the pocket. y j
lili/hen packing the within the shipping crate ri, the layers olf pockets containing the eggs are disposed one upon. the other, a sheet ot cardboard B being disposed between each layer, said sheets forming the top and bottom portions et the containers or pockets. rit the end ot each layer, is a filler C ot any suitable material, the fillers alternating at the en d ot cach layer so as to properly position the containers ot one layer between the containers ot the adjacent `upper and lower layers. ln this way, the loop portions 15 serve to support the adjacent layers ot containers, and at the saine time prevent the egg within the pocket t'roin coming in contact with the upper cardboard sheet. The use oit the cardboard sheet Crt uns
between the layers does not interfiere with the yieldable movement o the pocket, as the cardboard is not connected in any manner to the upper ends oit the containers, and the Weight of the egg serves to draw the jaar members inwardly. By the novel position of the pocket, the does not at any time come in contact With either the upper or lower layers, but is suspended therebetween. Furthermore, in View of the fact that the portions 14: of the pockets are inclined inwardly, there is no danger ot the same coming in contact with the jaws or similar portions of the adjacent pockets when placed Within the shipping` crate.
It is of course obvious that I do not desire to be limited to the precise arrangement ot the jaws and pocket, as the pocket may be constructed or vformed V-Shaped or Lil-shaped, and the container made in various shapes Without departing` from the spirit of the invention.
From the foregoing, it ivill be readily seen that this invention provides a novel form oit egg container which insures the sate delivery of' any quantity of eggs by providing a separate container for each egg and preventing the egg from being crushed, and also 'from coming in Contact with any object, and While the egg is yieldably supported, the resilient force of the container is suflicient to prevent the egg from comingl in Contact with the adjacent containers, so that "damage is eliminated.
strip being bowed :ulfiarent their iul'ermo diate portions to provide parallel armsr` the end portions oli said arms being extended inwardly toward and secured to earh ollnr to form a pocket.
3. An container oi" the character described comprising a body member, egg holding means carried by said body member, said means consisting ot yieldable strips, each strip being extended bark upon itscll to provide parallel arms. the end portion ot each arm being extended iinyardly toward the opposite arm, the ends o'l' the arms being disposed substantially at right angles to the strip, and means vlfor connectiinr the ends ol? the arms to each other.
1l. in egg container olt the rhararlcr loscribed consisting of a strip ol material haring its ends eo" nected 'to 'form a collar` a plurality of strips extending` trom rne up per edge oi the collar` each olE said strips being extended back upon itsel't and then inwardly toward the opposite strip to sul)- stantially provide a pair ol ti-shaped jan' members, the ends oi: said strips being si cured to each other centrally ol? the voller.
5. An egg container ot the character described consisting of a strip o'lf nmterial having its ends connected to iliorm a collar. said collar having two pairs o'l arms projecting from its upper edge, each ot said arms boing extended inwardly toward the. center of' the collar, and then dowmvardly substantially in parallel relation to the inwardly extending portion of the arm, and then inwardly toward the opposite arm olf the pair, the end portions of one pair ot arms being disposed upon the end portions ot the rcinaining pair of arms, and means for securing the end portions oi' each pair oli arms to the end portions olf the remaining pair ol' arms.
In testimony whereof' l hereunto alllx my signature.
