Description
P. C. WENTWORTH.
RING TRAVELER.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 5.1921.-
Pabented May 9, 1922.
- 15: 0011101 I Eli/72y] 6. 71591121001411 QFFEQEQ PHILIP C. WENTWORTH, OF PROVIDENGE, RHODE ISLAND.
RING TRAVELER.
Original application filed January 11, 1921, Serial vember 5, 1921.
Z '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP C. WENT- WORTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, county of Providence, State of Rhode island, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Ring Travelers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ring travelers and is a division of my pending application Serial No. 136,585, filed January 11, 1921, to which reference is made.
In the particular form of ring traveler involved in the present application, the bow of the traveler is provided with a plurality of rectangular shaped spaced ventopenings which permit a draft through the traveler effective to prevent the accumulation of lint on the traveler and to lreep the inner or contacting horn of the traveler cool.
The construction and operation of my traveler, together with a selected embodiment which well illustrates the principles involved, is described and illustrated in the accompanying specification and drawings, and the characteristic features of novelty particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Throughout the specification and drawings like reference characters are employed to indicate corresponding parts, and in the drawings Figs. 1 and 2 are side and top views, respectively, of a traveler in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 4 is a diagrammatic view illustrating the position of the ring relative to the spindle.
My ring traveler is of standard type comprising a how portion 1 and terminal horns 2.
The bowportionlis provided with one or more rectangular shaped openings 3 therethrough which permit a draft directlyrinto the traveler itself substantially transversely of the bow portion 1 thereby preventing the accumulation of lint on the traveler.
Specification of Letters Iatcnt.
No. 435,585. Divided and. this application filed N0- Serial No. 513,119.
The draft through the openings 3 also tends to cool the traveler, particularly at the inner or contacting horn which becomes heated by reason of its continuous contact with the ring. The effect of the heat is to drawthe temper of the traveler and to burn the ring.
As here shown'the openings 3 are disposed as longitudinally extending slots separated by an intervening tongue or bar of metal 4 which is preferably slightly depressed as appears in Fig. 1. I
The ring is indicated diagrammatically in Figs. 3 and 1 at It, the spindle at E5, the yarn at Y and the traveler at 1.
lVhat I therefore desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A ring traveler comprising a body provided with a plurality of rectangular shaped openings therethrough.
2. A traveler comprising a body portion having a pair of spaced slits therein and having the material of the traveler between said slits depressed.
A raveler comprising a body portion having a pair of spaced longitudinally extending slits therein and having the material of the traveler between said slits depressed.
i. A ring traveler comprising a body pr0- vided with a pair of spaced longitudinally extending openings therethrough.
5. A ring traveler comprising a body provided with a pair of spaced longitudinally extending rectangularly shaped openings theretlirough.
6. A ring traveler comprising a bow provided with a pair of spaced parallel rectangularly shaped openings therethrough.
7. A ring traveler comprising a bow proed with a pair of spaced parallel longiina-lly extending rectangularly shaped iings therethrough. n testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
