Description

F. M. LOGUE.
Bale-Band Stretchers.
Patented Augu st 5, 1873.
with as s so 32 AM, FHOm-LIT H OGRAPHIC CO /V Y.( SEORNES P508583} UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
FRANCIS M. LOGUE, OF SATARTIA, MISSISSIPPI.
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-BAND STRETCHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,447, dated August 5, 1873; application filed July 17, 1873.
To all whom z'tmay concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS M. LOGUE, of Satartia, in the county of Yazoo and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bale Band Stretcher and Buckle, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to balin g cotton, hay, and all other merchantable commodities which are usually transported and sold in bales; and
consists in a lever-stretcher so constructed that the ends of the bands are drawn together, and the band is tightly drawn around the bales for fastening or tying, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side view, showing the stretcher in use. Fig. 2 is a view of the stretcher looking to the right from the line as w of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the lever, to which is attached, by a pivoted crank, 13, the arm 0. The lever and the arm each terminates in forked projections D, that are provided with notches E for the reception of the pieces F and G which com prise the buckle.
In applying the stretcher, one end of the V bale-band H is folded around the piece F and the other end around the piece G, when the said pieces are placed in the notches E, while the lever is in the position shown in Fig. l, the lever then being raised until after the sides of the crank B pass a'perpendicular, when it turns over and drops the pieceF into the squares in piece G, when the stretcher may be removed.
With this device all the slack in the bands may be taken up and the bale kept in a much smaller compass and made to present a neater appearance.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Q The lever A and arm 0, when forked and notched, as shown, and combined with the crank B, as herein described, and for the purpose specified.
FRANCIS M. LOGUE.
