Application filed June 2,
V vented a new and useful Improvement in This muslc-producing device includes a -with my invention.
Musical Toys; and I do hereby declare the following, -when taken in 1 connection with the accompanying drawings and the charactors of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in- Fig. 1 a side view, partly in section, of a musical toy constructed 'in accordance Fig. 2 an inside face view of part of the back of the casing, illustrating a springoperated music-producing device and means operated thereby. i
This invention relates to improvement in musical toys, and particularly to musical toys including a figure, the object beingto V produce a toy simulating a player-piano with a figure operating it, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinv after described and particularly recited in the claims. o
In carrying out my invention, I employ a casing 5 simulating, in appearance, an
upright piano mounted upon a base 6.' The back 7 of the casing has mounted upon it a music-producing device 8, as commonly employed in music boxes, and which is spring-operative and wound by a key 9'.
shaft 10 on which a pulley 11 is mounted.) Above the device is a drum 12 covered with paper dotted to simulate the appearance of a perforated music roll sheet, and this drum is driven from the pulley 11 by a belt 13, the face of the drum showing through an opening 14 in the front board 15 of the casing. -Near the bottom of the back board is mounted a crank-shaft 16' having two cranks 17 and 18, the shaft. being turned from the pulley 11 by a belt 19. These cranks 17 and 18 engage with pedals 19 and 20, so that the pedals will be moved by the operation of the music-producing device. Seated upon a bench 21, in front of the casing, is a doll 22, the feet of which rest upon the peda1s'19 and 20, being he d,

' thereon by' sockets 23 into which the toes extend. o V If desired, a connecting rod124 maybe coupled with one ofthecranks 17 or 18 andextend forward into engagement with,
a crank 25 formed at the lower end of a rod 26, extending upward through the body of the doll and'connecting with the head 2-7 thereof, so that "the head may be turned Patented May 2,
from side to side. The music-producing device being-wound,-will produce musical sounds and, at the same time, the drum '12 will be turned so as. to give the appearance ofa music rollsheet above the'key-board.
At the same time, the cranks 17 and 18 will be turned,so as to raise and lower the pedals 19' and 20, so that it appearsthat the dollis operating the player-piano, and if the connecting-rod 24 is employed, it will turn the crank 25 atthe end of the .vertically-arranged rod 26 so as to turn the head of the doll.
I thus produce, in a very simple way, the
simulation of'a player-piano being operated by a doll, producing an" attractive toy. I claim: i 1. A. musical toy, comprising a casing,
and provided with aback, a spring-operated music-producing device mounted in the said j casing, said music-producing"device including a shaft, a drum representing thereof, cranks mounted near'the bottom of the casing, pedals resting on said cranks and adaptedto'be raised and lowered thereby,
formed in its front face with an opening connections between said shaft, drum and,
cranks whereby they are moved with the said shaft, and a doll mounted in front of the casing and'having feet resting upon said pedals and adapted to move therewith.
2. A musical toy, comprising a casing, formed in its front face with an opening and provided with a back, a spring-oper-- atedmuslc-producing devlce secured to said 7 V back, said device including a shaft, a pulley on said 'shaft, a drum supported by said back inline with the openingin the front of the casingand turned by said pulley, cranks mounted on said back near the bottom thereof, and also turned from said pulley,{ pedals raised and lowered by-said cranks, a doll mounted in front of the oas 1 ing and having feet resting upon said pedals, the head of the said doll mounted v upon the upper end of a vertical rod, .21, crank at the lower end of the 'rod and. a connecting-rod between said last named crank and one of the pedal cranks.
