INVENTOR CLIFFORD E. ALLISON,
F iORTLAND, OREGON.
I 'HOISTING DEVICE.
I i- 4 Application filed Nm eniber T 0 all Qoizdm it may concern: v
Be it known that I. -CLIFF()RI) E. ALLISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland. in the county of Mul-tnomah, and State of Oregon, have 'inve-nted new and useful Improvements in Hoisting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention pertains to hoisting devices, and it contemplates the provision of a hoist that is more particularly for use in conjunctionwith tractors, such for instance as the well knownFordson tractor now inf the market.
The invention further contemplates the provision and construction of hoisting device that because of its peculiarconstruction llS adapted for ready use for towing or other pulling purposes. The invention'in all of its details will' be fully understood from the following' description nd claims, when the same are read in connection w ith the drawings, accompanying. in which: a
Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating my novel invention as secured on a tractor.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the clutch drum. and gears and the frame on which the same are secured at the front of a tractor.
Figure 3 a side elevation of a portion 80 of the frame and illustrating the manner in which the crane or lifting arm and gears are secured thereto. vs c I Figure 4 is a topplan view ofth frame per se. a r Figure 5 is a top plan view of the crane arm and the frame. arid showing the manner "in which the frame extends forwardly from the radiator of the tractor.
Similar numerals of reference designate to'corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings: i
My novel device comprises a frame having side portionsl and the upper and lower portions 4; The said side portions '1 are pro- 5 vided at their lower ends with, forwardlv reaching arms or portions2 and extending from the extreme outer end of the portions 2 are brace portions 3'that are also secured at one end to the upper portion 4 of. the device. Itwill be apparent that the members 1, 2 and 3 are-of angleform-construction and are securely retained to each other by the bolts or other fastening means.
Secured to and extending rearwardly from the portions 4 as clearly shown in Figure lower member 4.by t
Specification of r 'l Patented Apr. 25, 1922.

- 1. are brace rods These rods are secured to the rear axle (not shown) of the tractor and the said rods are provided with turn buckles (3 asillustrated.
Mounted on the m' embers 3 is a driving shaft 7 having pulley 8 arranged onfone of its ends. Surrounding this pulley 8 is a drive belt 9 that derives motion from. the drive p u'lley '(no t shown) of the tractor. The shaft 7 is provided onitsend opposite the pulley 8 with a'reduction gear 10. and said gear meshes with the gear 11- of the shafi 12. This shaft 121s also provided with agear 13, that in turn meshes with th'e'large gear 14 of the friction clutch drum 16 rotates on ashaft 15. through the medium of which the drum is secured on the members 3. Manifestly-all of the shafts 15. 12 and 7 are arranged on the members 3.
Extendingupwardly in the center of the device and from one to the other of the members 4 is a. shaft 17 that is secured to the e fastening member 18 and to the'nrember 4 atthe, it )per end-of the frame by the fastenin mem. er 19. and arranged on the upper end of the shaft 17 is my 'novel forwardly reaching crane'arm 20. having a pulley 22 at itsextreme outer end. Secured to a forwardly reaching portion of the member li) is 'a pulley 21. and at this point I would distinctly have it understood that these pulleys 21 and 22 are openfat one side for an important purposeIhereinafter set forth.
Adapted to pass around the pulleys 21 and 22 and having a hook or other securing member on one end. is a cable 23. and this cable is fixedly secured to the drum 16 and is adapted to be wound thereon.
In the practical use of the device. the frame is secured on the front ofthe radiator of a tractor or-other vehicle, and when it is desredto elevate material. the book of the cable is secilred to said material. and wheif power is applied to the dri-vingpulley of the tractor. motion will be transmitted through the pullev 8 to the shaft 7. The meshing of the gears will in turntransmit motion to the drum 10. This will tend to wind the cable on said drum and naturally the material may be and will be readily elevated.
However. when it is desired to employ the device for towing purposes. the cable is .re-- moved from the pulleys '2] and 2;. b lil't- 110 drum 16. Thi 70 the construction of the frame and its appurtenances is such thatthey will not get out'of order after a slight period of use.
v The braces 5 and the manner in which they are retained and secured to the frame and rear axle of the vehicle assure the rigid connection of the gears and frame to the vehicle.
Havingdescribed my invention. what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent 1. .In means for the purpose set forth, the combination-of a. tractor, a frame secured to the forward portion of the tractor, a crane-arm Secured on the frame, a driyenshaft mounted on the frame. a reduction gear arranged on one end of the shaft and nesses.
a pulley arranged on the opposite end of the shaft. a shaft arranged on the frame beneath the first shaft. a gear that meshes with the reduction gear of the first shaft. a reduction gear formed on the second'shaft and a clutch drum having a gear that. meshes with the reduction gear of the second shaft.
2. In a tractor the combination of a driving pulley. a driven pulley that derives 1notion from the filSti-Iltll'llttl pulley.-a frame secured to the tractor, brace rods secured to the frame and to the rear axle of thetractor. ashaft on which the driven pulley is mounted secured on the fi-an1e.'a drum that derives motion through a series of gears from the driven shaft. a crane-arn'i secured on the frame. pulleys having onefree side arranged on the crane-arm and a cable secured to the drum and adapted to pass over the pulleys of. the crane-arm.
In testimony whereof l have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- CLIFFORU lC. ALlilSt )N.
