During the shifting of the film and sensitized paper, the brush 27 maintains the same under a tension whereby both film and paper are prevented from wrinkling, while during exposure when film and paper are stationary, said brush serves to maintain the paper in firm and even contact with the film and to press both film and paper evenly and,
uniformly against the light pervious panel 13. rihe action of the brush is such that the film and paper will be properly held in position down to and including the last picture, so that all of the pictures on a given film may be exposed without difficulty. After one film has been completely exposed and printed both reels 18 and 19 upon which the film and paper have respectively been wound, may be bodily removed from the apparatus or said paper and film may be 11n-- wound from said reels as desired. The removal of the printed paper, of course, takes place in a dark room and may be followed either immediately or subsequently by such steps as are required to complete the production of the pictures. It will. of course be understood that suitable provision is made to prevent light from reaching the interior of the body 10 where the roll of paper 32 is located and also from reaching that part of the casing 12 in which the reel is positioned.
Prior to the actual printingoperation, a suitable mask 15 may be placed in front of the panel 13 to define the area required for the particular film being exposed and the flanges 2O and 21 may be adjusted to correspond to the width of said film and of the sensitized paper respectively. By selecting` a mask suitable for the purpose or by providing a specially constructed panel 13, the apparatus may be readily adapted for cthciently exposing moving picture films. The apparatus may also be utilized as an ordinary printing frame to print individual pictures and for plate printing by simply placing the individual film or plate with the required sheet of sensitized paper between the panel 13 and brush 27. In order to facilitate the printing of such individual films or plates it is desirable to have the panel 13 in an inclined position, this result being attained either by tilting the entire apparatus or by making provision for tilting the casing 12 relatively to the body 10.
The apparatus is simple in construction and efiicient in operation and does away with the necessity for cutting a film into sections corresponding to the individual pictures thereon, thus not only retaining the film in its original complete condition, but also increasing the output of finished pictures.
Various changes in the specific form shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
` I claim:
1. A photographic printing apparatus comprising a body arranged to contain a photographic film and a supply of sensitized paper, an upright casing divided into an upper and a. lower interior chamber and extending upwardly from said body and communicating therewith, an upright light pervious panel in one wall of said casing in registry with the lower chamber thereof, a pair of reels journalledin the upper chamber of said casing and arranged to independently receive said film and paper respectively, gears operatively connected with said reels, a pinion in mesh with said gears, a Vkey for rotating said pinion and gears whereby said reels are actuated to concurrently adjust said film and paper in registry with said panel, a brush located in the lower chamber of said casing and having its bristles in direct surface contact with said paper and a spring whereby said brush is resiliently pressed against said paper to press it and said film into surface contact with each other and with said panel,
2. In aphotographic printing apparatus, the combination of a light pervious Danel, a container for a photographic film and a supply of sensitized paper, means for separately feeding said film and paper to progressively and concurrently adjust them in registry with said panel, a brush having its bristles in direct contact with said paper and a spring whereby said brush is resiliently pressed against said paper to press it vand said iilm into surface Contact with each other and with said panel.
