WATER-PUMPING SYSTEM.

To all whom it may concern Be itrknown that I, JOHN I. As'rRoM, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Pumping Systems; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention appertains to water pumping systems, and more particularly to a typeof the same adapted for home and farm use.
The principal object of the invention is to provide for a water pumping system of the class mentioned, and one wherein the parts of the same, including the storage or supplytank, are assembled into an extremely compact unit, so as to minimize the amount of space required for the installation of the same. i
Another object of the invention is to provide for a novel form of tank construction for water pumping systems of the character set forth, and one which is capable of being installed on certain constructions of such system units, whereby to occupy the ordinarily waste space thereof.
v With the'foregoing and other objects in view, the invention resides in the certain novel and useful construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, set forth in the appended claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which V Figure 1 is a side elevation of the preferred embodiment of the system unit,

ably bolted on and at one end of the base or bed plate 10; 13 an'electric motor havopposite to that on which the pumping mechanism is secured, and operably connecting the latter; and 14 a casing enclosing an automatic electric pressure controlleradapted to effect a starting up of the motor 13 and the pumping mechanism, when the pressure of the system forces below twenty pounds, and a stopping of the same when the pressure of the system reaches forty pounds; all of a usual and'known construction and arrangement.
In the accomplishment of the objects and purposes of the present invention, a pair of supporting standards or members 15 and 16, preferably in the form of heavy metal castings of substantially rectangular form, are provided and arranged in spaced relation, one with respect to the other. to have secured on their top edges the opposite ends of the base or bed plate 10 of thepumping apparatus hereinbefore described; Both of the. standards or supports 15 and 16 have their lower edge faces formed. with inwardly extending flange portions 15 and 16, respectively, to provide broad substantial supporting surfaces, whereby the system unit, as a whole, is practically rigid and free frarn undue vibration at all times, such as is necessary for the successful and efficient operation of the apparatus.
Formed centrally of the, opposed inner faces of the standards or supports 1.5 and 16 are complemental circular portions 17 and 18. respectively, each outwardly concaved, and having their peripheral edges provided with offset annular flanges 1'9 and 20, whereby to form annular shoulders 21 and 22, respectively. for the seating on the same, and the clamping therebetween of the opposite end of a tubular metal cylinder or tank body 23.
For effecting the clamping of the tank body 23 in position, as stated, the circular portion 18, of the standard or support- 16, is formed to provide a cylindrical boss 24, ex tending inwardly and concentrically of the concaved face thereof, having a threaded inbody and municating with the'lower part wardly opening bore 25 therein for the reception of the threaded end of a tie rod or bar 26, extending centrally through the tank body The standard or support 15 is formed to provide an inwardly extending flanged opening 27, disposed concentrically of its concaven inner face portion 17, and adapted to have projected outwardly thcrethrough the complemental end of the tie rod or bar 26, the free end portion of which is threaded for engagement in the complementally threaded bore or socket of a plug closure 28 adapted to be snugly fitted inwardly of the flanged opening 27L The outer end of the plug closure 28 is formed to provide an enlarged head port on 29 adapted to firmly bear against the outer end of the flanged opening 2-7, and which is preferably polygonal in form to provide oppo- 'sitely disposed flat side faces for the application thereto of a tool or wrench whereby the same may be manipulated to and from position on the complemental end of the rod or bar 26. plug closure 28, the opposite ends of the tank body 23 are firmly clamped in position against the opposed walls of the shoulders 21 and 22, and to an extent as to provide substantially water-proof joints therebetween. The closure plug 28 is designed to fit the bore of the flanged opening 27 in a manner also designed to prevent the escape of water or pressure outwardly thereof. In either case, however, a suitable packing (not shown) may be provided to additionally as sure against any and all possible leakage of pressure or water from the completed tank.
The standard 18 is provided with an out-- wardly extending boss 30 having a threaded bore opening into the lower side of the tank is adapted to have connected thereto the water inlet pipe 31 leading from the pumping, mechanism, while the standard or support 17 is similarly provided with an outwardly extending boss 32 having a threaded bore leading from the tank body and connecting a water distributing or discharge pipe connection 33.
Opening inwardly of the front side edges of the standard or supporting end plate 16 and communicating with the upper part of the tank body is a threaded opening 34: adapted to have connected thereto a. pipe connection 35 leading to a pressure gauge 36, while opening into the same and comof the tank is threaded opening 37 adapted to have connected thereto a drain pipe connection or valved cock (not shown) for the drawing oil' of all water from the tank, or from the system as a whole.
- It is to be noted that each of the standards or end supporting plates 15 and 16. may have their top supporting edges each formed with a pair of spaced lugs or studs 38 adapt- By tightening up on the Y ed to engage in complenientally formed recese'es formed in the under faces of the opposite end edge portions of the base or bed plate 10 of the pumping apparatus, whereby to add to the rigidity of the connection between the same and the latter.
Furthermore, if desired, that portion of the bed plate 10 which rests upon the brackets may be placed between the upstanding lugs 38 as disclosed in dotted lines in Fig, 3. In this, it will be noted that the bed plate 10 is bolted to the bracket element by means of a bolt 39, the same extending vertically through a flange formed on the bed plate. The head of the bolt passes through a block l0 arranged with a vertically arranged slot formed in the central portion of the bracket web, the block being held down by inwardly projecting fingers 41., 7
Referring to Figure 4, it will be noted. that the manner of securing the bed plate l0 on the bracket is similarto' that above described, with the exception thatthe bed plate 10 extends the full width of the bracket and its flange. is provided with recesses to receive the lugs as described hereinbefore.
' t is well understood that, while the apparatus has been described and illustrated in a preferred embodiment, and in specific terms and details of construction, arrangen'ient and assembly of parts, various changes in and modifications of the same may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention, or scope of the claims appended hereto.
