GRAHAM C, DOBSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
' HINGE ANCHOR FOR TOILET SEATS.
Application filed March 9, 1921.
T0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GRAHAM C. iDoBsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hinge Anchor for Toilet Seats, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to toilet seats, such as shown and described in the application for Letters Patent of the United States, Serial No. 441,310, filed by me on January 31, 1921.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved hinge anchor for toiletseats arranged to securely and firmly connect the seat with the hinge to allow proper up and down swinging of the seat without danger of injuring the seat or the hinge post.
Another object is to provide a hinge anchor which is Simple and durable in construction and not liable to get easily out of order.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
Figure 1 is an under side view of a toilet seat provided with the improved hinge anchor;
Figure 2 is an enlarged cross section of the same on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same on the line 3 3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the anchor bolt; and
Figure 5 is a similar view of the hinge arm.
The toilet seat on which the improved hinge anchor is applied consists of a filling 10 of wood, composition material or the like, and a metallic fiat bottom 12 having u turned flanges 13 engaging rabbets 14 formed on filling 10 to fasten the filling 10 and the at bottom 12 together. The flat bottom 12 is provided with a struck-up apertured boss 15 through which extends an anchor bolt 16 screwing into the filling 10, and the said anchor bolt 16 is provided with a conical head 17 flush with the under side of the bottom 12 and seated in the boss 15. A hinge arm 2O fits on the under side of the bottom 12 and extends across the head 17, and a stud bolt 21 passes through an opening 22 in the hinge arm 20 and Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 7, 1922. Serial No. 451,035.
screws in a threaded central recess 23 formed in the anchor bolt 16. Thus by the arrangement described the hinge arm 20 is securely fastened in 'position on the toilet seat. In order to prevent the hinge arm 20 from turning on the bolt 21 as a fulcrum use is made of a tongue 25 rising integrally from the upper surface of the hinge arm 20 and engaging a recess 26 formed d-iametrically across the head 17 of the anchor bolt 16. It is understood that two hinge arms 20 are usually applied to the toilet seat, as shown in Figure 1, and the said hinge arms have eyes 30 engaged by the pintle of the hinge connecting the toilet seat with the bowl posts.
It will be noticed that by the arrangement described an exceedingly strong hinge an* n chor is provided for attaching the hinge arm 20 to the toilet seat to allow proper up and down swinging of the seat without danger of injuring the seat or the hinge.
It will also be noticed that the parts constituting the hinge anchor can be readily assembled and fastened in position, as shown and described.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In combination with a toilet seat, an anchor screwedinto the seat andhaving a head flush with the under side of the seat, a hinge arm on the under side of the seat and extending over the said anchor head, and a stud bolt passing through the said hinge arm and screwing into the said anchor.
2. In combination with a toilet seat having a filling and a metallic bottom attached to the filling, the said bottom having an apertured boss extending into the filling, the under side of the boss being countersunk, an anchor bolt extending through the said boss and screwing into the said filling, the head of the anchor bolt being seated in the countersink of the boss, the anchor bolt being provided with a threaded recess, a hinge arm on the under side of the said sea-t bottom and extending over the head of the said anchor bolt, and a stud bolt passing throu l1 the said hinge arm and screwing in the sald recess of the anchor bolt.
3. In combination with a toilet seat having a filling and a metallic bottom attached to the filling, the said bottom having an apertured boss extending into the filling, the under side of the boss being countersunk, an
ing provided with a threaded recess, a hinge arm on the under Side of the said seat bottom and extending over the head of the said an- @hor bolt, a said hinge recess of th stud bolt passing through Vthe arm and 'screwing in the said el anchor bolt, and retaining 10 means on the contacting faces of the Said hinge arm and the head of the said anchor bolt.
GRAHAM o. DOBSON.
